So yesterday's two performance were archive tapings. My question is have they also taped the original cast performance? If so, do they tape whenever there is a major cast change? That would mean a show like Chicago would have many many archived performances.
I was at yesterdays show and didn't know they were filming it. Zoe Lister-Jones was out for yesterdays shows but her understudy was FANTASTIC. I enjoyed this show SO much more with this new cast than I did before.
Matinee or Evening performance. At the evening one the camera was the back of the orchestra for around 15 minutes then they removed it. Nothing is my playbill indicated an understudy was on for the evening.
"No, they don't. Not every production is archived--some receive multiple tapings, some none at all. "
How long does a show usually have to run before it's taped, does anyone know? I'm always intrigued by this--also they sometimes seem to go out of their way to record major regional productions, I wonder if there's a criteria.
I know Bob Fosse was against the idea, which is why the archive, which started fairly heavily recording shows by the late 70s, never recorded his shows. However they did take into their posession famous bootlegs like that one that is floating around everywhere of Big Deal (which I always find funny in a way as it goes against their mantra--to use bootlegs--but at the same time I'm glad they preserve them).
Yadda yadda yadda... this is all very interesting, but I think the REAL question begging to be asked is, "Will there be an archiving of Raven's performance?"
so they keep these archive copies, and they use them for what? Stock footage for awards shows, and retrospectives? A part of me wishes they would make some available to be seen, maybe just for short periods of time like 10 years later. Especially for those of us on the West Coast or who missed out on some great shows by virtue of our age....wishful thinking I know.
that's awesome do you have to prove you're a student to make an appt? Hell I'd register for a class just to justify being able to sit in a room and watch some of the stuff I never got to see. I'm a nurse so I can't really prove its work related ;0
