Today is Sunday, April 15, marking the official opening of PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, telling of the origins of Peter Pan, his nemesis Captain Hook and the enchanted island of Neverland, helmed by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. A feat of theatrical storytelling, language and stagecraft, Peter and the Starcatcher is based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Rick Elice authored the stage adaptation that uses 12 actors to recount the tale of adventure.

PATSC opened to critical acclaim Off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop March 9, 2011, where it extended its run twice. The entire Off-Broadway company returns for the Broadway transfer, which began previews March 28.

Christian Borle stars as devious pirate Black Stache, with Celia Keenan-Bolger as Molly and Adam Chanler-Berat as Boy. Completing the cast are Teddy Bergman, Arnie Burton, Matt D'Amico, Kevin Del Aguila, Carson Elrod, Greg Hildreth, David Rossmer, Betsy Hogg, Orville Mendoza, Jason Ralph and John Sanders.

Steven Hoggett created the movement for the production, which has set design by Donyale Werle, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, sound design by Darron L West and musical direction by Marco Paguia.

If Talking Broadway is negative everyone involved should be very happy. That's usually a good indication a lot of other reviews will be positive.

Murray's panties are wound up so tight it's no wonder he can never write a favorable review.

I adored the show Off Broadway and On but have talked to a surprising number of people who disliked the current incarnation and/or felt the show lost a lot of its charm in the move uptown- it will be interesting to see if any of the critics changes his mind from his earlier review.

I saw it yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that it didn't lose its intimacy. It was absolutely magical.

I love this show. It's everything good theatre should be. Plus, it's just a joy to watch.

so happy Christian Borle is getting such good reviews, his storyline on SMASH has been so frustrating (though I LOVE his dynamic w/ debra messing) it's refreshing to see him back in his roots!!

Bloomberg is mostly negative.

1.5 stars out of 4:

"Borle’s wink-wink performance is so over the top that I half expected him to applaud himself at the end. Celia Keenan- Bolger is delightful as Molly/Wendy, as is Adam Chanler-Berat as the Boy who would be Peter.

But “Peter and the Starcatcher” just can’t stop crowing about how clever it is. I wanted to smack it."

AMNY is positive!!

3.5 stars

http://www.amny.com/urbanite-1.812039/theater-review-peter-and-the-starcatcher-3-5-stars-1.3662745

"Alex Timbers and Roger Rees' spirited production of Rick Elice's play is that rare kind of theatrical event that can appeal equally to kids — who will be captivated by the sentimental, action-packed plot — and adults — who will admire its imaginative theatricality."
