As per a friend who saw the show. Rashidra Scott was on instead. It's only Raven's second week and she's already missed a show. Anyone know if she's out again tonight??
Perhaps I'm alone in this opinion, but I think any of the actresses playing Deloris should have an alternate. It's an incredibly demanding score and role, and I think Raven is possibly just falling victim to how difficult it is. As stated in the other thread, and from what I can tell, she is up to the role, but she probably doesn't have the vocal stamina of Patina. Though I'm sure she has more than Tasia.
it's my personal opinion that most of the leading lady roles written for Broadway these days require alternates. (Elphaba, Elle Woods, Celie, Deloris, etc)
But then again, if there are those fierce women that can pull it off (mostly) 8 times a week, more power to the bank accounts of the producers.
Didn't the last revival of My Fair Lady have an alternate Eliza?
That's what I was going to say. I loved Patina in that role all the times I saw her, but she clearly had done a number on her voice. From London to the end of the Broadway run, there really was a marked difference. I believe that if she had an alternate from the start, she would've ended up a lot healthier vocally.
I was there this afternoon. Extremely disappointing. Already missing shows? According to the house manager she is not expected to return for a couple days. The box office said "she isn't feeling well.."
I have never seen a theatre so empty. People walked out after a good 20 minutes and realizing she wasn't there.
Something tells me this will be a regular thing.
Regardless, Rashidra was fantastic, although, you could see the fear in her eyes as the curtain lifted.
Had a blast as usual, and would return just to see Rashidra kick ass!
How is it that the theatre is so empty yet I can never get a rush ticket... I tried at least a dozen times around 11am, including twice during the week before Raven took over and on Tuesday.
I NEVER post on here....but when I saw Patina she sounded BEYOND tired....so anything will be an improvement. People are not robots no matter what their pedigree or expectations may be. Raven has 6 months and she clearly proved things were headed in the right direction with a 25% bump in grosses last week. Even if she is out until the weekend, I am sure the producers are thrilled to have her, because otherwise they would be arranging set/costume rentals with the MUNY and Maine State.
Someone asked me at The Book of Mormon this evening if there was "a new guy playing Elder Prince or whatever his name is." This was at the end of the show as I was walking out. I didn't have the heart to tell him the other lead was an understudy as well.
^ You mean, there wasn't an announcement before the show started? There's usually an announcement, a posting outside in the lobby on the cast board and (sometimes) a little slip of paper tucked inside the Playbill alerting audience members of any cast changes, *especially* those concerning a lead character/performer.
