Usually understudies are fine, it's just disappointing when there is a particular performer you want to see. I saw Once on Saturday and thought the understudy was terrible. Her Czech accent was pronounced to the point of cartoonishness. So disappointing...
I remember when I went to see Spamalot, it was the day of the Tonys and Sara Ramirez was out sick, saw her understudy and my whole group thought she was awful. It was a bummer. But I have also seen great understudies, as I would generally expect them to be.
Here's hoping Cristin gets better soon! (Meaning no disrespect to her understudy...just hoping that Cristin gets feeling better...)
I think terrible is an awful way to describe her performance. I am not an expert on Czech accents, so all I can say is nothing sounded out of order to me. I wanted to see Cristin very very much, but I really tried to not let my disappointment sway my view of Andrea. She acting wise was very good, and grew from the the Sunday to Wednesday performance. I would really like to hear more criticism other than about her accent. I am general curious as to why you don't think she was even "good".
Cristin was back on tonight and gave an excellent performance. Overall, I liked the show much better tonight than the first time I saw it. Andrea Goss was on as Reza.
Edited to fix Andrea's name- didn't read my Playbill slip well enough. Apologies.
The cast is also performing on The Today Show this Friday in the 10am hour. I wonder if Milioti will miss tonight or tomorrow night to be able to perform on The Today Show??
Sounds like Steve Kazee will be out of the show for the next few days. He just tweeted that he is back home in Kentucky to be at his mother's side. I believe in the BCEFA thread someone said that he mentioned her fighting breast cancer when he made the BCEFA speech the other day.
Looks like maybe we will get to see his understudy in the Today Show performance tomorrow, I assume.
Interesting. One o'clock this morning he tweeted that he was in Kentucky to be with his mother (trying to figure out how to link to a specific tweet...I always forget how...). Perhaps the Today Show segment was pre-taped?
Well Hoda and Kathy Lee were wearing the same clothes as in the rest of the segment, so unless they knew what they would be wearing today specifically, I don't see how it could have been pre-taped.
It's not unheard of. It happens on shows every now and then. Generally when shows like that do a pre-taped segment, yes, they will change wardrobe and then have to wear that same wardrobe again. I've seen it happen at a taping of Jimmy Fallon.
The costume folks know what they will be wearing ahead of time --its not like they just show up dressed for the day -- its all wardrobe and provided for them.
I would HOPE that with the knowledge that Kazee wanted to visit his dying mum (based on the reference to hospice), they would have been happy to accomodate filming in advance.
