I Love Lucy: Live on Stage will be playing a couple months in Chicago this fall. Apparently, it recreates the experience of being in the live studio audience when the show was filmed including the "Ricky Ricardo Orchestra" and the Crystaltone Singers performing the live commercials. Sounds intriguing, but this is the first I've heard of this show. And it's being produced by Broadway in Chicago. Has anyone else heard about this? I Love Lucy: Live on Stage
Yes, saw it in LA and it is quite entertaining and very fun! Their spin on it is very unique and offers more than just a stage version of the show. Really well done.
Here's the really big problem, if I am not mistaken:
They only have the rights for the two "I Love Lucy" scripts, NOT for the four original actors, Lucy, Desi, Frawley and Vance. If they had the life rights of the actors, they could expand the show into a real musical. Since they don't, they have to stick to the material in the scripts.
It's really a shame, because the idea is great, but it's like making a show called "The Making of Citizen Kane" starring a character named "Famous Radio Voice."
