what's everyone thinking for this year? I haven't seen much this season since I'm several hours from New York, but from what I've read and seen online, this is what I think it could come close down to. The competition is pretty heavy this year, especially in the plays (very, very nice to see), and the handful of musicals vying for their respective spots is going to be very entertaining as well.

I do not think Godspell will be nominated over Porgy and Bess. And I have no idea what the sound or book will be like for Nice Work If You Can Get It since it has not opened yet...

I wouldn't forget about "End of the Rainbow" for Best Play. It is truly a stunning piece of theatre.

I think you are putting a little more faith in GHOST than might be warranted. Also, would be pretty unlikely all the FOLLIES women would be ignored in supporting. If they hype is to believed, ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS will be getting several acting noms.

I believe the entire cast of CLYBOURNE PARK is going to be submitted for supporting and you have a few actors in the wrong catagories (Rachel Griffiths has already been determined to be lead, for example, for OTHER DESERT CITIIES...

Somewhat lopsided guesses, but so would mine be, I suppose.

One thing that struck me is that I'm quite sure that Norm Lewis is a lock for the nomination, at least.

I also forsee a few supporting noms for P&B, specifically for NaTasha Yvette Williams and David Alan Grier...not even mentioned as in contention on your list. Grier will certainly be nom'd before anyone from Godspell.

you, obviously, haven't seen ANYTHING this season. to leave "The Gershwin's Porgy And Bess," Norm Lewis, David Alan Grier, PHILLIP BOYKIN and Natasha Y. Williams off the is proof of that.
Godspell....REALLY??!!??
JCS...It's a joke!!!

I would think Lindsay Mendez would be able to get a supporting actress nom for Godspell. She's amazing in the show.

I would stick ELAINE PAIGE in Featured actress in a musical for Follies, and bump RICKY MARTIN up to Leading actor in a musical, which would take Richard Fleeshman's place - cause he won't be nominated.

I agree about Mendez. If anyone gets a GODSPELL nom, it should be her. Salazar would be nice too!

MB has a point about GUVNORS... JAMES CORDEN is gonna want to be in your "contention" section at the least if the word is accurate.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

What does it matter if anyone has seen them? Isn't part of the fun supposed to be seeing how predictions change as more shows open?

You left out the Winner of Best Actor in a Musical:
Danny Berstein!

I disagree. Almost everything has already played elsewhere, especially with all these London imports, and for the stuff that we have not much idea about, like NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT, we can just take a look at the track records of the team involved (all of which are extremely solid) and that's where I decided to go from.

All in good fun.

and thank you, theatreguy, for your comment cause you're exactly right. it's interesting to see what seems to have the most clout prior to opening, and then what actually does.

I love these predictions! Don't know how spot on they are but maybe close. Telly Leung and Wallace Smith should be in that list for best featured actor in a musical. One or the other. They kill!

I don't really know anything about Newsies even though I'm hoping to see it but is Andrew Keenan Bolgers role that big that it could be considered feature?

Keenan Bolger's Crutchie is unfortunately underwritten,
instead they added a girl (yuck).
I wanted to see more of Crutchie, Bolger will have to wait for a TONY nom. It would have been fun to see the adorable Keenan-Bolgers nominated in the same season.

Have we gotten a rulling on Ricky yet? Pattinkin won Best Supporting Actor & my guess is he would go in the same category. I know everyone loves Audra- but depending on the reviews- I really think Elena could have a shot- its kind of an iconic role in the musical theatre- time will tell...
