I just searched for a thread about this and couldn't find any. What categories do you think Spider-Man will be nominated for? If they are nominated for any at all. I see a very slight chance they will be nominated for Best Score, solely because Bono and Edge did it. Other than that, I don't know what they will be up for. Any thoughts?
Patrick Page deserves a nomination...despite the fact that the Green Goblin is still written well below the level of any current Marvel comic book character in the musical's "book." Page has stuck it out so well, and has given so much at every performance. He managed to milk out laughs and pathos at all three performances I saw, even though the show did not work in any of those three incarnations. From Julie's version (last January), to the timid/intermediate "revamp" last summer, to the slightly advanced (but still boring) version playing last autumn, he was a real highlight. And a real beacon of professionalism in an otherwise "theme park" show.
^That's actually a great idea. Maybe if they sucked a little more they'd get some nominations. Though, I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing.
What about for Jennifer Damiano, I thought she did really well when I saw it. She has a great voice and to me she really stood out. I am not that huge of a fan of patrick page, but i did think he gave a great performance. So any thoughts on Damiano?
Yeah, Best Actress is already a really tight category this year, Damiano's prospects don't look very good (are basically non existent...) if that is what they are considering her as.
(While I don't think she deserves a nod,) her already having left the production isn't going to help matters.
I could actually see this being snubbed entirely -- but a set design nom would be warranted. (Although when I saw the show, it wobbled like crazy after most set changes.)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Set, Lighting, Sound... what about costume? I hope they get nominated for costume. And Patrick Page had better get a nomination. really.. I remember at 1.0, although his role was smaller, I was soooooooo happy to see his face in act 2. I had no clue why he was back, but I was thrilled!
I would love to see it nominated for music, I love the score, but its not traditional.. and not really Tony-like so I wouldn't mind too much if it wasn't.
But honestly, Scenic design really needs to WIN, And after the revamped period, the sound is ROCKING and truly takes such care of the actor's voice. (Care as in preserving and projecting a natural sound, while still creating such a cinematic power.)
Now what about orchestrations? The show has some great orchestrations..
@dramamama, just out of curiosity, are you referring to how the city legs sway, like in NY Debut or any other city scene? If so.. I found it actually pretty cool, because although its only natural for something to like that to on a baton, it reminded me of the illusion of high skyscrapers swaying in the wind.. thats just me though :P
I saw it well over a year ago, so the specifics are fuzzy. I do remember the newpapaper (editor's?) office swaying madly...to the point I wasn't sure it was safe...and then noticed it a number of other times.

Going to be nominated for Best Musical. Mark my words. The Tony committee has the unique opportunity to grab headlines by nominating Julie as Best Director. I think they take it and nominate her, creating bedlam at the same time. I would expect the technicals as well.
For the essence of how this show has traveled from almost closing in March to now a massive success, it really deserves a best musical nomination for the show itsef (and how those people worked and recreated a show with messy content). I mean, its not popular with most of those on the boards, but the majority of the audiences are thrilled (just go look at the spidey hastags on twitter, its raves!) and the reviews were on par with some others that have made Tony success.. From an extremely critical point of view, it certainly wouldn't be the worst musical to be nominated or even win.
Question... could the show get choreography seeing as the producers bill the flight designed by the choreographer(s) although, there were many involved with the total design.. how is something like that honored via award? Like the show or not, that was impressive.

Love, all kinds of scores have been nominated and won throughout the years. There is not such thing as a "traditional-Tony-like-score". If they do not nominate this, it is because it is not worthy of it (and that's me putting REALLY nicely). If you think it is not nominated because it's so out there, I like to to tell you that the garbage bins are out there too.

You know what was impressive regarding flying and choreography? Watching Mary Martin or Sandy Duncan fly over the audience decades ago. Now, THAT was impressive and magical. Watching two guys held by 86 cables, while the producers let us know it cost a billion dollars to do so, is an impressive waste of creativity.

It's a committee, not a "committing". And hopefully the committee will see nothing worth enjoying here.
It's obvious that you are very young and your tastes will get more refined regarding theater - hopefully. But that does not mean that this poor excuse of a show deserves the Best Musical nomination it would get by default, let alone win it.

I don't think itll get any acting nominations. Maybe best musical since nothing so far has been more entertainingly epic. Also Set design and costumes?
Could you imagine the marketing tricks they'll use if they get one nomination!?
