It's almost the new year: never too early to start predicting the Tonys! Yes, the calls we make will probably turn out to be grossly wrong by the time the Tonys roll around, but let's have some fun and try to make some calls anyway.
Best Musical: Ghost the Musical Newsies Nice Work if You Can Get It Once
Best Revival of a Musical: The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess Evita Follies Jesus Christ Superstar
Best Actor in a Musical: Matthew Broderick, Nice Work if You Can Get It Richard Fleeshman, Ghost the Musical Jeremy Jordan, Newsies Norm Lewis, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess Steve Kazee, Once
Best Actress in a Musical: Jan Maxwell, Follies Audra McDonald, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess Cristin Milotti, Once Kelli O'Hara, Nice Work if You Can Get It Elena Roger, Evita
Best Featured Actor in a Musical: Danny Burstein, Follies Michael Cerveris, Evita Joshua Henry, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess Michael McGrath, Nice Work if You Can Get It Josh Young, Jesus Christ Superstar
Best Featured Actress in a Musical: Jane Houdyshell, Follies Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Ghost the Musical Judy Kaye, Nice Work if You Can Get It Karen Mason, Rebecca Elaine Paige, Follies
DA'VINE JOY RANDOLPH will be the only performer in Ghost to be nominated, in my opinion. And scratch the ONCE leading actress nomination, and put in Bernadette Peters. There is NO WAY Bernadette will not be nominated.
But I think it's safe to say Audra will nab her fifth Tony Award for Bess. Either Elaine Paige OR Da'Vine Joy Randolph will win the Tony for featured actress
Best Totally Wrong Director of a Musical Involving Paper Thin Characters Attached to an Absurdly Bloated Concept: Julie Taymor Best Angsty Score Since SPRING AWAKENING: SPIDERMAN Best Scenic MisFire of the Decade: ON A CLEAR DAY Best "What Were They Thinking" Moment: Bernadette's red dress in a tie with the entire costume rack of ON A CLEAR DAY Best Use of En-Masse Manflesh on the Boards: the tap dancing sailors in ANYTHING GOES Show Most Likely to Succeed in High School Contest Productions a Decade from Now: LYSISTRATA JONES Show Most Likely to Get NRA Membership: BONNIE AND CLYDE
I think if it's another weak season like last one ( except Book of Mormon,Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Scottsboro Boys and both revivals with two of those being closed) then Follies could pull Scottsboro Boys come Tony time.
I think with Newsies coming in so suddenly, Disney has its eyes set on winning. It sure won't be Bonnie and Clyde or Lysistrata. Once could surprise some people if the transfer to Bway holds up.
Best Actress is between Jan and Audra. Featured is between Terri White and basically, everyone else. Best Actor's a bit up in the air, but I think Ron Raines will be nominated. Keep in mind the actors from Spider-Man can be nominated now too. I wouldn't be surprised if Reeve Carney and the cast got a couple nods just for surviving the whole mess.
HappyPhantom, I don't think the race will be between Jan and Audra ( as much as I love Jan). I think it will be between Elena Rogers and Audra. Also featured actress could be very different considering the featured female roles in Follies aren't too big.
Do we think the producers will petition for Ricky Martin to be considered a Leading Actor? I have a feeling they will.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Remove Richard Fleeshman and insert Danny Burstein for Follies and I think that's a pretty good guess at Best Actor in a Musical.
Leading Actress will be ultra competitive. Besides the 5 women you nominated, Peters will also be in contention, along with Caissie Levy and Sierra Boggess. It will be interesting to see who gets the shaft.
Featured is between Terri White and basically, everyone else.
No it isn't. Terri White likely won't even be nominated, though chances are 10 years from now in an interview she'll claim she was.
Nope. All 4 of the Follies leads, consistent with the opening night credits, were deemed leads, and thus, eligibile for leading actor and actress awards.
All other decisions were consistent with the opening night credits. What that means: In general, unless the committee has determined otherwise, performers listed ABOVE the title may be eligible in the Leading Actor/Actress categories; if a performers is listed BELOW the title, he or she is considered a "Featured" performer.
Well not to be an asshole but the Follies placement has been discussed and announced plenty of times on this board.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
I'd love for Laura Osnes to get a nom. Her performances of How Bout A Dance and Dyin' aint so bad are fab. I know it's just two parts, but they're worth it.
Pretty sure Jeremy is gonna get one for making Bonnie & Clyde watchable.
I'd like to think the score for Bonnie & Clyde will get a nom as well. But that's just dependent on the suckiness of Once and Rebecca (Bonnie & Clyde is far better than Lysis Jones so that's one down... )
I don't think Lysis Jones should get anything.
I'm all for Spider-Man and Ghost getting a nomination for best score. Haven't heard anything else.
