Did Kristin Chenoweth just announce the On the Twentieth Century revival?

So, I just watched Kristin Chenoweth be interviewed on The View, and they asked her about coming back to Broadway, and she just spurted out that the next thing she was doing was bring back On the Twentieth Century.

Has this been officially announced before? I know there had been talk here and some rumblings about it, but I don't remember an official announcement. I'm just curious if we just go confirmation, or if I'm seriously behind the times.

Well, Broadwayworld posted it on their Facebook that she is.

I will explode with joy if and when this is confirmed.

It will be messy.

Then I can start my campaign for a City of Angels revival.

Shes been making that announcement for a while now.

I thought that she had talked about it before, wanting to do it, getting it together, but I didn't know if she had said so definitively before. Not that it means anything, of course.

So does make it "official"?

Anyone know who's directing?

Kristin Chenoweth announces this sort of thing as often as she links to someone who doesn't exist or sends to the world what should have been a direct message on Twitter. Which is to say often. She's not really mastered the whole "interacting with the public" thing.

Just a recent example: Here's a link to a tweet thanking Elisabeth Hasslebeck and Whoopi Goldberg for the interview. Neither are the proper twitter profiles, and both are misspelled.

Wasn't there a reading of it a while back?

I would edit my last post if I could, but there was indeed a reading back in March with Chenoweth, Hugh Jackman, and Andrea Martin.

Gosh, that would make me cry with joy. "20th Century" has been in heavy rotation as I've done laundry this summer. The casting possibilities are limitless: I'd even go see Lithgow as Oscar Jaffee. And for Mrs Primrose? Stritch, Lansbury, Leachman, Burnett- Hell, recast it every month with another old legend!

I'd love this to happen, too. This would be a great role for Chenoweth, and the show deserves a lavish revival.

I would love to see Carol Burnett as as Primrose. What a riot she'd be.

As much as I would love for this to happen, I don't see how it can if her new series is a hit.

Went looking for info on the show and found that she said this back in May of this year and that she would have more info in 2 weeks. She said the show as a part she would like to play and that it would be a really good fit.

And if it happens they might as well just go ahead and reproduce Robin Wagner's scenery. There could be nothing more stunning.

God, it was fantastic.

And so was Kevin Kline.

Chenoweth's series doesn't begin until mid-season, not sure when she's planning on opening ON THE 20TH CENTURY but I imagine she'd be available to start before the season ends, or perhaps they are looking toward a summer opening though that'd be odd. Either way, I can't wait to hear about the rest of the cast.

The hiatus period for a network television series is 3 months, which is the only timeframe she'd be available for IF her series becomes a hit. I highly doubt any investors would put money up for a fullscale Broaday revival of ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY with a top billed headliner only doing a 3 month run. Maybe her replacement could become a big deal like Judy Kaye became when she replaced Madeline Kahn shortly after the original production opened on Broadway back in 1978.

It's a revival. Sadly, it is far more likely the set will be scaled down and unimpressive. The last thing I want to do is get my hopes up on this revival. Way too much room for disappointment. Chenoweth is a wonderful step in the right direction. I refuse to speculate on anything else. Especially the set and the orchestra. I'd have to go back on Xanax.

This is great news, but I hope they don't feel the need to add a few "new" Cy Coleman songs to beef up her role. The score is perfectly constructed, and it should remain the way it was first performed back in 1978.

Saw the original production with Cullum, Judy Kaye, Kline and Coca. Would love to hear Chenoweth sing Babbette.

Of all the great leading roles in musical theater, I can't think of a better one for her. Very exciting!

I don't think they'd need to insert any more for Chenoweth. Lily Garland has quite a bit to sing in the show. She arguably has the best songs in the show, including two fantastic solos ("Babbette" is one of my favorite female solos from a musical).

I hope her new TV show flops. (I know this is a selfish thought!)
