Last night Paulo Szot returned to the Cafe Carlyle for a 2 week engagement. I saw his show in September and it was fantastic. I am wondering if anyone was there last night and could give me an idea if it's the same show he did in September. I may not care and go anyway because he is just that wonderful. Thanks in advance!
Eileen, stop back by if you would and let me know if his set is any different than you remember. I've been dying to hear him sing "Gigi" again among others. Hope you enjoy it again...I remember reading your posts about the concert back in September!

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
I LOVED his concert with Kelli O'Hara and the New York Pops celebrating the music of Lerner and Lowe last April. He performed Gigi that evening, also. Heaven!!

I surely will let you know gladly. It has been a long time since I found a performer that I cannot get enough of. I'm just plain greedy and Szot's is just plain in a league of his own in every aspect.
I saw Paolo in November in Santa Monica. Wonderful show and Gigi left me breathless!! I am making the trip to NYC to see Paolo at the Carlye Tuesday. I am sure it will be worth every dollar and more. Like everyone else, I cannot get enough of him and his beautiful voice. Looking forward to hearing your reviews.
What can I say fantastic...........the set approach was different most of the same as the fall but they changed presentation he went from the American Song Book to the Latin Song Book but not in that half-half approach. Am I making sense? It was almost like seeing fusion in the making. Everything was so nicely blended and it had a really really good feel of energy he was great. Yes he did Gigi and no he never uttered a word about Spiderman.....Regis Philbin and his wife were there and absolutely lovely folks. This venue is steep but if it means every six months I have to save then I will continue on because this man is a volcano that is ripe to errupt and I so hope he does not miss his mark. Well good night all. If you can get there you'll find it much better than than the Fall.

YES YES YES and needs to get one ASAP. This guy has so much to offer and if only he could get some original material for himself and I care less if it was in Portugese, I really feel it in my gut he would reach heights that would be unsurmountable. Just a selfish thought on my part but he has something I haven't seen in a great while and I cannot put my finger on it.
I also went last night to see Paulo after seeing him in Sept. The show is VASTLY improved.First he seems much more comfortable with the small space .[The audience is literally within inches of the stage] and this time he chatted more ,even joked a bit and he is very charming, [he should do even more of this]Secondly the show seemed to have been professionally produced this time and has lost the recitally quality it had at moments in Sept.He also sang out with considerably more power, not attempting this time to moderate the volume for the space, to thrilling affect.Of course the looks, the voice, the charisma and those bedroom eyes could'nt be improved upon Updated On: 2/4/11 at 10:11 AM
Regis Philbin said some great things about Paulo Szot on his show Friday. His commments start at 14:40,a bit is inaudible and he and Kelly are goofing around some, but Regis said he's got "the most magnificent voice you've ever heard" and "one of the greatest singers you will ever hear." Regis was just as enthusiastic about his first performance at Cafe Carlyle last year- there's a youtube of that. Live! with Regis and Kelly (Friday, 2/4/11)
