re: Clue The Musical: Original Cast Recording

I read online that when Clue played its short run Off-Broadway, An "Original Cast Recording" was made, but then never released likely do to the show's short life on the stage. Did the recording ever leak into people's posession, as the Dracula Concept Recording did?

Not that I know of. The one everyone seems to trade on cast album collector is a bootleg.

I'm not a fan of the musical version of the show. I think if someone wrote a musical based on the film, than it would do quite well. Actually that's not a bad idea... If I wrote music, I'd be on it like white on rice!

yea, that's all I've seen, and I've seen the original 8track Demo float around.. it's a shame when they're recorded and unrelased (Lestat. cough) Oh well, I don't know the musical, but am curious about it.

And I totally agree, that one based on the movie would have been amazing. haha

I think that's really the problem with the musical as it stands right now. Anyone going into something called CLUE is going to expect the characters they know from that movie. And I can't believe we're coming up on the 25th Anniversary of it. I guess it can officially be considered a "classic".

I don't know if they have any left, but you might want to call Samuel French. They own the rights and I know they used to sell the OCR, but it might be out of print by now...

Cool thank you both, I just did the download, I believe that is the Demo Recording, which I also don't have. I believe that is separate than the Original Cast Recording that went unreleased though? Correct? Which is the one Samuel French was selling?

I think Samuel French only provided the demo for companies that licensed the show. If they gave out the cast recording someone somewhere would have it. At this point I'm not convinced that it was ever really recorded.

I was thinking the same thing Cats, about the demo and the Cast Recording not being actually recorded.. Although it is possible that it was recorded, and never mixed/finalized.. If it was just left with the tracks raw/unedited, that would be difficult for it to leak.. I believe it was the same problem with the unreleased Lestat recording (dont get me started).. I believe that one also was never mixed/completed.. which would explain how it still hasn't leaked.. (unless it has now? please BY ALL MEANS prove me wrong). :)

Is there any chance that some still has a copy of this recording? I'm music directing a production soon and want to be able to get a good feel for it. The link posted in the thread leads to Megaupload, which was shut down. Would anyone be able to send it to me?

I've seen a play version of the film Clue presented several times- I don't actually know if it's an official one or if everyone gets the same bootleg adaptation, but the staging has shared several peculiarities- all four endings are presented, with each going into curtain call before Wadsworth interrupts and starts the next ending.

^I know for a fact that there have been at least two amateur productions in the US that have transcribed the movie screenplay and put it on stage, but there's definitely not a legal licensed version anywhere except for the musical mentioned above which is not based on the movie.
