Goth how can you say no thought goes into these gifts? Seriously- PLEASE explain. The prime minister is coming to the USA- the president gives him a collection of great American films- films that show the American experience and character. I'd LOVE to put together that list- I'd love to have EVERY president put together that list. Bush would include Independence Day I'm sure. He's skip Grapes of Wrath- way too pro-socialist. Would Clinton include Wag the Dog? (I would)
And then he gives him a BBQ- what a great idea. Every time I've entertained guests from the UK they want to go on a picnic- One guy told me about growing up seeing pictures of the queen & king eating hotdogs with FDR and for the rest of his life THAT was his perception of America. When he left he said "You Americas sure eat a lot of meat- and is it always cooked outside?"
And the iPod for the Queen- it was requested for, and loaded with footage of her own trip to the US and her favorite songs (it was also given with a songbook signed by Richard Rodgers).
I am shocked- SHOCKED- that AGAIN when his opinions are challenged and he is asked to back up a ridiculous, outrageous statement, this Chowderhead makes himself scarce. At least that Xenia dufus tries to defend his stupid pronouncements.
I always end up regretting having bumped this thread, but the latest installment is too good to resist:
The BBC's Washington correspondent between 2001 and 2009, Justin Webb, has just published an account of his experiences during those years. In it he specifically refers to asking a "senior administration official" about the bust of Winston Churchill being removed from the Oval Office. The official's response was
"We were just clearing house. We didn't even know who it was...We thought it was Eisenhower: elderly white folks all look alike to us."
