Yeah Raul should do it! He would bring the fierce intensity to Che.He is a triple threat.

They should get this college girl on broadway and have her play eva cause she is seriously BEAST!

"No one could ever sing that role and hit every note."

I'm pretty sure DeCicco did when I saw her...

"Second, when you are singing a score in your fourth language then you complain about what words she can and can not get out"

If that's the case (and I don't know, as I haven't seen her performance), then she shouldn't be playing the role. The fact that English is not her first language does not give her a pass on poor diction.

in one performance maybe, probably not every night for their whole run. I also love how you all attack Roger for not having perfect pitch but favorite Donna Murphy gets away with being consistently flat.

Banderas has four films in pre-production now, according to IMDb.com.

Do they really think he'd put his film career on hold to be a replacement Che in a revival on Broadway?

... a role he already played on film?

I Agree with Random Person 112.Alot of people bash Elena for all this stuff while they obviously know that patti wasnt always pitch perfect and that her voice had to grow into the role. You can complain about Elena's diction but you also have to Remember that patti has had diction problems with evita also.

If you dont like her thats fine, but dont be hypocrits about it.
Im a Huge patti lupone fan.I freakin worship that lady but I also think elena is doing a great job, ecspecially for how long she has done it.

It's hard reading this thread without making a fist, lol.

The reason LuPone seems to almost get a free pass by virtually everyone and continues to be THE definitive Eva Peron in many people's minds has less to do with perfection and superhuman ability and it's more about the overall strength of her portrayal.

I know, I'm aware many of those who love her as Eva Peron didn't even see her perform it live onstage and there are close to no good quality videotaped performances of her doing it. But this is one of those performances that hit every high standard right on and what she delivered was/is irresistible.

You know there's magic on that stage when the only thing people can possibly come up with to bash LuPone's Eva are "diction" issues. Others just love to bring up what LuPone herself has always been very open about--her struggles in singing the role as written. None of that matters at all because, in the end, it just works. LuPone claims that her Evita experience was just awful and caused her a lot of problems. Even with that being the case, it still doesn't matter and it never will. Of course I feel bad for her and am not saying her struggles don't matter; however, I am saying they don't matter when determining how good or bad she was in the role. Neither do critics.

The same applies to Hal's original production. Yes, it was met with some puzzled and unimpressed notices, but many of the original production's concepts and designs have been the standard for hundreds of productions around the world and has been a very reliable and effective way to deliver the piece to audiences. The negative reactions by the handful who don't get it aren't going to suddenly render Hal's masterpiece a piece of junk.

LuPone can crack horribly (@ "stand back, Buenous Aires!") as she does at the end of that "Buenos Aires" performance on the Tony Awards and she can slur her words as bad as she does in the same song on the original cast album, nothing will or can erase the far, FAR stronger points that make her little glitches negligible. Hal's original production will always be a wildly brave and theatrical visionary approach at telling a story that historically divides. It encourages us to decide for ourselves while setting a very strong negative tone. You know a person has got a real story there when even that fiercely negative tone does nothing to stop their story from being as polarizing as it has been.

At this point, 3 decades on, it took time for the original production and Patti's take on Eva to grow on everyone but they have arrived, and history is on their side.
