So what if Les Mis wins this weekend?

As much of a fanboy as I am of the original stage version, and as much as I enjoyed the film, I am surprised by how forgettable it is. Seems like it's going to be ARGO... but then again, they chose GLADIATOR in the same year that THE CONTENDER was not even, well... a contender.

To answer the OP's question, what would happen, is that Cameron would have BOTH stage versions of Les Miz return to Broadway simultaneously, plus Cats and Miss Saigon, a new version of Phantom (to play alongside the original) and one of his hoary retreads of Oliver. He'd also mount a production of "Hey, Mr. Producer" at his newly purchased Cameron Mackintosh Theatre (formerly the Marquis), and revive Mary Poppins a week before the original closes.

If it doesn't win the Oscar, he'll skip Poppins, bring in TWO versions of Oliver, and launch a new reality show called "I'd Produce Anything (I've already produced)"

I dreamed a dream that LES MISERABLES, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway won Oscars... But there are dreams that can not be

If it wins, it wins. If it does not, it does not diminish it or take away the fact that it IS, was and always will be the greatest musical ever.

"TO LOVE ANOTHER PERSON IS TO SEE THE FACE OF GOD"- LES MISERABLES--- "THERE'S A SPECIAL KIND OF PEOPLE KNOWN AS SHOW PEOPLE... WE'RE BORN EVERY NIGHT AT HALF HOUR CALL!"--- CURTAINS

it's a long shot to win best picture. Argo & Lincoln are considered the top two favorites. Daniel Day-Lewis has been predicted by everyone to win & the same goes for Anne Hathaway.
A Chorus Line played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013.

I have been hoping for Les Mis to win best picture since the moment they announced it was being made. I know it's very unlikely but a boy can dream!

Even if it doesn't win it has already changed the course of Hollywood musicals. If it wins, hopefully, movie musicals will stop being considered giant risks.

As a movie musical, it is already an extravagant gift -- after waiting so long for the stage musical to be adapted for the screen! Winning awards will be more like icing on the cake!

Thanks to all who made the film musical of Les Miserables possible! Hope the musical number with the Les Miserables cast will reaffirm that this is a great musical, onstage or onscreen!

The LES MIZ medley certainly earned the respect and affection of the audience at the Dolby Theatre, who gave it resounding applause. Those fellow artists, craftspeople, technicians and other industry professionals know how extremely difficult it is to pull off a successful movie musical, which LES MIZ definitely has proved to be.

So, is this discussion now null and void?
IMHO I see Queenie as being more of a brunette...
