I try to see every show(not all the special concerts) that opens up on Broadway but ugh I really have no interest in seeing this. My girlfriend will probably be trying to get me to go though hah
I know I am not the only one who finds stripping totally ridiculous and so far away from sexy. It is that whole "I am so hot, and I know it, now stick money in my jock" mentality that just puts me off.
Put me down as for this. I'm not so thrilled about a film being adapted to Broadway so soon, but on the other hand, this show could be a hell of a starmaker for many young men. I'd also like it to be a bit more fun than the actual film (one of the best desciptions I've heard of it was a more downbeat Saturday Night Fever).
THE FULL MONTY musical was a great blend of drama, comedy, and eye candy. I love that show! It's hard to imagine MAGIC MIKE being a better 'male stripper' show.
If you go in with low expectations and the ability to mentally block out bad acting (Channing Tatum and that constipated girl who made me appreciate Kristin Stewart), the movie is enjoyable, but what made it flavorful was its sun-hazy/gritty direction, which would be nigh impossible to achieve onstage which leaves you with...what, exactly?
Back when this was first talked about when the movie came out, they said the stage version would be more fun, like a party. Which makes me just assume it would be a more expensive Chippendales show...
Don't pretend that most of you who are bitching about this won't be the first ones racing to the box office with your hundred and fifty bucks waving on your hot little hands to get in to the first preview.
I'm not into strippers per se. Yeah they have great bodies and they keep me entertained and give me something to look at when it gets a little boring at the bar/club...but I don't give away money. I won't pay good $$$$ to see on Broadway what I can see for free any friggin day of the week at Urge.
But if that's what floats your boat have fun! Who knows? Maybe it will be a success with the ladies.
---------- ... Oh, and will audience members get lap dances? We got the answer to that last question when we spoke to producer Gregory Jacobs (also the first assistant director on the Magic Mike movie) at the Cinema Society premiere for Side Effects last week. "Oh, you definitely might get a lap dance," he said. "Absolutely. That's happening for sure." Jacobs also let slip that "there's bound to be a great song about how to pick out a thong," but couldn't reveal much more. ----------
As someone posted above, it does sound like "Magic Mike: The Bachelorette Party."
As such, it seems like it would be better in an off-Broadway venue, a cabaret with tables and drinks. Or perhaps they'll put tables and chairs in front of the stage like when Cabaret played at Studio 54.
