The fact its been listed on Wikipedia and spoke about in other publications that hes been in a 13 year relationship with Rainer Andreesen kinda made me think he was already out.
Yawper, I wouldn't exactly call this "coming out"...if you read the article, the blogger says that he asked Garber if what was on Wikipedia about Rainer Andreesen being his partner was true, he said that he doesn't usually talk about it but that it was true.
I'm pretty sure he's been openly gay for quite some time now, if not his whole career, it's just he never made a big show of coming out like we've come to expect.
On a side note, I *loathe* g.d.e.l.g.i. and would not shed a tear if he broke every finger and was unable to type another word and that that no one ever allowed him access dictation software.

Dear Namo,
I interpret your strongly worded hate fantasy as a covert homosexual advance... which I ACCEPT!
He is also very close friends with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner -- in fact he, being an ordained internet minister, officiated at their wedding and is godfather to one of their children. Imagine, getting married by the guy who played both Jesus and Satan!
Yeah, I assumed it was "confirmed". A year or two ago for a Canadian magazine (Canadian, so I guess it doesn't matter) he mentioned Rainer, his "companion of 13 years" I suppose some might think that was vague or something... And I'm sure he's mentioned him before.
Who cares if this is his "coming out" or not? Love this thread so much, he's just so wonderful. And his "September Song" is heartbreaking. Jordan and Wynbish, keep them coming!
i dont get this announcing your sexual preference thing. good for him, glad hes happy, but what do i care who he has sex with? whats next announcing what your favorite position is?
This can't be said too many times, I suppose, suestorm, but:
When any admired public figure comes out as gay or lesbian, it can be an enormous positive influence on GLBT youth (and adults) who live in societally-induced fear and self-loathing.
Until we reach that Utopian day when being gay or lesbian no longer means being hated, feared, or attacked, a celebrity's vocal coming out can only be a good thing.

newintown, i respect what youre saying... my thing is im glad hes gay, but as most on this thread have said, as with jodie, its been a known fact for years. not sure how his announcing it is going to help some kid in alabama. thats all im saying.
A "known fact" and a proud out-loud statement are two entirely different things.
If you truly can't see how a public statement "is going to help some kid in alabama," I'm not sure anyone can explain it to you. To me, it's as obvious as the color of the sky.
What newintown is saying is similar to what Zachary Quinto said after his "coming out", though, like Victor, many knew it anyway.
After nonchalantly referring to himself as a gay man in the middle of an interview question, he blogged about the importance of saying it at all,
when i found out that jamey rodemeyer killed himself – i felt deeply troubled. but when i found out that jamey rodemeyer had made an it gets better video only months before taking his own life – i felt indescribable despair. i also made an it gets better video last year – in the wake of the senseless and tragic gay teen suicides that were sweeping the nation at the time. but in light of jamey’s death – it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it – is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality. our society needs to recognize the unstoppable momentum toward unequivocal civil equality for every gay lesbian bisexual and transgendered citizen of this country. gay kids need to stop killing themselves because they are made to feel worthless by cruel and relentless bullying. parents need to teach their children principles of respect and acceptance. we are witnessing an enormous shift of collective consciousness throughout the world. we are at the precipice of great transformation within our culture and government. i believe in the power of intention to change the landscape of our society – and it is my intention to live an authentic life of compassion and integrity and action. jamey rodemeyer’s life changed mine. and while his death only makes me wish that i had done this sooner – i am eternally grateful to him for being the catalyst for change within me. now i can only hope to serve as the same catalyst for even one other person in this world. that – i believe – is all that we can ask of ourselves and of each other.
