Tie between Evita and Leap of Faith. Honestly, I never cared for Evita even when I saw it with Patti and Mandy years ago.

At least Scandalous, Leap of Faith tried to do something new and failed.
Ghost was pretty bad too.
Annie took something wonderful and make it downright mediocore.

Certainly, there is no contender for "worst show of 2012" that could possibly beat LEAP OF FAITH.

No.

And no.

Ok

And yes.

I guess since my first choice wasn't in 2012 I'll default to Ghost.

Your first choice is Ghost, since what you state as your "first choice" wasn't even in the running.

Incidentally, newcomers who ask questions are set upon all the time for not doing a google search for the answer, or are met with a rolling-one's-eyes comment such as, "not THAT again."

Opening dates of plays are easily accessible on the internet.

Oh, there WERE some rough shows this year. I'll break this into categories.

Worst Off-Broadway Play: An Early History of Fire
Worst Off-Broadway Musical: The Landing (I don't care if it was a workshop--that thing was wholly irredeemable)

Worst Broadway Play: Grace
Worst Broadway Musical: Chaplin (I didn't see Scandalous)

Worst Revival of a Brilliant Show: Into the Woods

Of course, it's all subjective. There are things listed here that I loved (I'm pretty sure I'm the one and only person who thought the production of Look Back was fascinating and thrilling).

I find it impossible to peek into a barrel of garbage and pick the ugliest piece. All of these were of no worth to me:
Scandalous
Ghost
Leap of Faith
Giant
If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet
On A Clear Day
Carrie
Jesus Christ Superstar
February House

Plenty of good things balanced out the year, though.

I have never chided newcomers for not doing google searches, so your comment with regards to me is moot.

Allow me to amend my answer by slightly altering the question:

Worst Show of the century?

Without a doubt the so-bad-it's-just-bad dreck known as Lucky Guy (the musical).

A little early for worst show of the century, so let's just stick with 2012, shall we?

Absolutely.

Reminds me of Ben Brantley's ludicrous proclamation regarding Book of Mormon, "the best musical of this century." This century's got a long way to go.

Funny thing, though. Lucky Guy was certainly one of the best musicals of this century thus far. But there haven't been many good musicals to compete with.

Well it depends on how you define Century- If you mean the 21st century- well, in the next 88 years there might be a show more execrable than Lucky Guy (which was quite an ironic title considering how UNLUCKY the several dozen people who stumbled in to watch were).

But I could easily see considering Lucky Guy as the worst show in the last hundred years- like how we categorize a disaster so heinous as a "Hundred year storm." It was the stinker of the century.

Ha ha. No need to wait 88 years. All you have to do is look around. Perhaps you need to see more shows.

"(which was quite an ironic title considering how UNLUCKY the several dozen people who stumbled in to watch were)."

There were at least 100 people in the theatre when I saw it. Add to that the number of people in the theatre for its other performances.... your math is as bad as your judgment.

"But I could easily see considering Lucky Guy as the worst show in the last hundred years- like how we categorize a disaster so heinous as a "Hundred year storm." It was the stinker of the century."

You would have to be a centenarian and then some to affirm that. And also to have seen every other show in the last 100 years.

Hyperbole: the bane of Broadway World.

I thought the artwork for CHAPLIN was Yellow and Navy?

Now that I look at it closer, it does seem like navy with a purple tinge, or it is just the yellow against it making it look bluer. I don't know lol.

I think they should have done Black and White. That would have looked great. Their black friday deal ads looked awesome, as well as their black & white Playbill.

The color choices were just random.

Judging by today's notices, Dead Accounts must be pretty awful! Can Holmes keep it afloat? Only time will tell if it will suffer the same fate as The Performers- which I think by this time in it's short run, had posted it's closing. Leap of Faith at least took their licks and closed, so Scandalous gets my vote for worst musical, and worst producing team, when you have the money to sink into a production to admittedly keep it open when others would've closed that seems illogical- give it to one of the boroughs affected by Sandy on the show's behalf! As for Ghost, I loved it, the spectical was something unlike Broadway had seen, and if one didn't see it and is just jumping on the hate bandwagon for the show, they may have been surprised by such a production- and Caissie and Da'Vine alone were enough to bring me back! Different strokes for different folks! I do have good taste before you go bashing! lol

"Hyperbole: the bane of After Eight."

Destined to be the worst musical of the century.

Lucky Guy was certainly one of the best musicals of this century thus far.

To you, perhaps. But your complete disregard of other opinions pretty much invalidates whatever you're saying.

drewmangroup, I don't think Glen Hansard hates it all. He's been very, very positive about the musical since the get-go. I'm not sure why you say that.

Back on topic...Scandalous.

To you, perhaps.

And by "complete disregard," you mean to the whopping number of two people who ventured their ill-informed, ridiculous pronouncements? What "regard" should be given such poppycock, anyway? Mister Matt, I appreciate a good laugh, but really........

And If I recall correctly, there were more than a few positive reactions to this show expressed on this board when it opened. So you see, I didn't disregard other opinions after all.
