Prior to hitting Broadway, that specific production (led by Michael Damien) played for a while in LA quite successfully, and San Francisco at the Pantages and Golden Gate Theatres respectively. You could almost classify it as a three-city tour. It's possible that the production recouped a significant amount before even hitting Broadway.
