At first I wasn't laughing much during episode 2 and then about five minutes in I started giggling and didn't stop. And I didn't feel slimed when it was over like last week's The New Normal. I really like Michael Urie now.

I think this show is TERRIBLE! I watched it twice and that's it for me. The cast is a huge let down. I don't believe a second of it. I'm supposed to believe that Krumholtz and Routh are a couple? It's just one bad element after another. The sets are awful, and the costumes aren't far behind. Urie is over the top ridiculous, with his stereotypical arm waving (and please get those ridiculous sweaters off of him)... I could go on and on, and on.... JUST PLAIN AWFUL!!!!
This show is abysmal. Luckily after last night's big drop from the already bad premiere ratings there is no way CBS will keep it on the schedule much longer. Here's to the return of Rules of Engagement.
The store assistant was the funniest thing about this episode. When a minor character is funnier than the leads, there's trouble.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
I did cringe about the lesbians and sex joke, though I admit I chuckled at the followup comment (something like "gay men and straight men have completely opposite thoughts on what lesbians do in bed", which does seem to have some truth to it on both accounts). Still, it felt tame compared to Murphy so often commenting on his shows about lesbians looking like overweight men, etc.
Like I said in The New Normal thread, I kind of went "ugh" at the lesbian joke I remembered from last night's Partners, but I thought that that was nothing compared to the mean-spirited lesbian jokes already peppered throughout The New Normal.
I'm already at the point where I have lost track of the TV schedule and all I know is The New Next to Normal seems to have aired twice a week and Partners much less. I remembered it was on last night with about 12 minutes left and I laughed real hard at the final round of the Celebrity game. I also think whoever that woman playing the fiancee is is the major problem in that her acting is bad and her destroyed speaking voice is annoying. The scripts wisely play to the failed Superman dude's weaknesses, "Listen to me, I'm screaming at you," also made me LOL.

Based on the level of reality defined by the rest of the show, I do find the Urie/Routh relationship believable. Much more so than the gay couple in New Normal. The more I see Urie both in performance and interviews, the more I love the guy. Even with old jokes you see coming from a mile away, Urie still manages to make them seem fresh and hilarious. And I don't know if it was the character or the casting that came first, but Routh is just spot-on with everything he's doing, which was the biggest surprise to me for this series. But having the sassy latina constantly hit on him was a tired joke after the first time.
Namo, I agree about the fiancee. She's the major weak link in the cast. She's a paper doll to the rest of the cast.

I only watched the first season, but I thought she was fine on One Tree Hill (but certainly nothing about that show made me think "Get this woman on a 3 camera, traditional sitcom!"). She just seems a bad fit, but it's probably the most thankless role on the show.
As Matt said, I don't really see anything unrealistic about Routh and Urie as a couple, at least in terms of the "reality" this sitcom presents.
Wait, there was a thing other than that crap U2 song called "One Tree Hill" and that woman with the destroyed voice was on it. I am often happy to find out that I don't know about a lot of things.

I only say that because I remember you once making a crack about the Olsen twins having smoker's voices even when they were young. That coupled with your reaction to Sophia Bush's voice is how I came up with my theory. The science is very exact!
