I do't like the Resurrection album either... I like the pop orchestrations much better. But the rock orchestrations do work for "The World Has Gone Insane," so I guess those elements have to be present in other songs to add a cohesive feel to the show.

"Bitch, Bitch, Bitch" could have stayed cut. That's not an addition I'm excited about. :-/

Remember that the Resurrection album featured just three actors - usually Rob Evan, Kate Shindle & Brandi Burkhardt.... The ensemble songs are obviously missing as this was more of a "concert" presentation.

The Resurrection album was more of what the better parts of the score (and remember - was a vehicle for three stars) were in the eyes of the creators - the director on Broadway took his vision and ran with it, cutting some of the popular numbers and adding in subtle subplots.

I honestly felt the metal guitars in the Resurrection album were a distraction to the score. I actually liked Bitch Bitch Bitch when I saw it in the show and Facade works well preceding it. Without Bitch Bitch Bitch, Facade works better between Board of Governors and Bring on the Men.

Can't say I'm thrilled with the set designs. It seems way too busy and contemporary. The back walls remind me a bit of the 1999 Amadeus revival. The Alley and first pre-Broadway designs are still the best I've seen.

I like "Bitch, Bitch, Bitch" so I'm rather glad that's back in. Does Emma have a solo? (She did have "Once Upon a Dream".)

Yes, Emma has "Once Upon a Dream" and quite a few other songs to sing, but the Resurrection Album added "If You Only Knew" as a second solo to her. Kind of surprised their not adding it in for this if they aren't, its a powerful song (and was added in a select few regional productions).

I always wished she'd had another song. It's a thankless role.

I'm glad "If You Only Knew" is not in. The lyrics for that song are so banal and uninspired. The song could be slotted into any Wildhorn musical and fit just about any situation.

Also, Mister Matt, I'm pretty sure those set designs are not for this tour.

Ah...I see now. The set designs are for a Hungarian production. Werll, just about anything would be an improvement over the Broadway designs. It was about as underwhelming as the show could get outside of a community theatre production.

i truly trust Calhoun's visual sense, particularly after BROOKLYN (the best part of that show), Deaf West BIG RIVER, and even the NINE TO FIVE tour (as reminiscent as the visuals were to the original GREASE design). i wish i had seen his Deaf West PIPPIN. And though the visuals that Greg Boyd/Kevin Rigdon provide or oversee for the Alley are often amazing (though i did miss the original J&H there), i find in general that Calhoun's are more a "machine for the action" and not just "design for design's sake." In fact, a small set for the new Theresa Rebeck play in the Alley's small space only pointed out how well Rigdon can support dramaturgy scenically with the right director.

I am very interested to see what the set looks like. I love how they did the photo shoot in the industrial warehouse. I hope the set is similar! I can't wait to see it for myself in October

Does anyone know who's playing Emma?

Teal Wicks.

Ms. Wicks is amazing. It's an excellent choice.

I'm sad Teal won't get a second solo. Her voice would have wrapped perfectly around "If You Only Knew".

"The song could be slotted into any Wildhorn musical and fit just about any situation."

You just described the entire Wildhorn songbook.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

One reason I'm excited for this show is the fact that teal wicks is Emma! I saw her in wicked last year, and if I remember correctly she had very few bway credits of any and I was blown away. I'm estatic she's getting more success!
