You left Corbin out of the "money question". Also, Ginger Rogers, Betty Grable, Martha Raye, Bibi Osterwald, Pearl Bailey, Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, Dorothy Lamour and Eve Arden.
One of my favorite moments in GODSPELL. I have to confess, I scrape up all the mylar confetti around me and save it in plastic bags. I put the date on each baggie.
(I love that picture! I use it as the Wallpaper on my monitor)
Even though this thread is about Ghost's speculated close, I must chime in in defense of dollypop.
The Godspell revival is wonderfully joyous and unique theater going experience. The cast is full of incredibly talented actors and vocalists. The new arrangements are intelligently modern while still respecting their original ideals. The seemingly spontaneous staging and use of the "in the round" medium is refreshing. Lastly and certainly not least, it is a respectful and wonderful staging of The Gospel that we as believers certainly appreciate and themes of brotherhood and sacrifice that the non believers out there can at least appreciate.
Does it have it's "campy"/cliche moments? Of course. That is nothing new to broadway.
Is it the most complete musical in Broadway's history? Definitely not.
Have the cast and show dynamics suffered from Hunter's exit? I think so.
Did the Tony performance come across desperate and cheesy? Certainly. You might too if you knew that the uphill climb towards your job security could depend on a condensed, out of context 2 minute piece.
But in a time of incredible cynicism, poverty, un/underemployment, over saturation of celebrity culture and violence, a show with an incredibly talented cast and classic score that simply asks us to let our lights shine on the world doesn't deserve the super-critical treatment that it has. A lot of which, by folks who haven't even seen it
I can't remember if Ghost recouped in London. It takes some special kind of producing to lose this much money on such a commercial title as Ghost. Good work, dummies!
After such a short run I think it's safe to say that the show did not recoup in London.
"What happened to Cassie Levy?"
I believe the show has taken it out of her vocally, physically and emotionally. She's always been notorious for vocal problems and this being the latest in a string of badly written scores for her doesn't help.
Notorious for her vocal problems? She had problems when she was Elpheba in LA but, as far as I know, she was fine in Hair and more than fine in Ghost. If she's a little tired from doing the show in two cities for over a year than it's understandable but she shows up every night.
Her voice notably deteriorated over runs of both GHOST and Hair, and she missed quite a few shows of the latter in London. The Caissie I heard pre-Broadway was not the same Caissie I had heard when the show opened.
