Two words...Urban Cowboy. Three words...Ring of Fire.

I personally find the adorkableness unbearably cloying and it wore itself out a long time ago. And I simply cannot imagine, short of moving her series in New York, how they can possibly make this work.

Can Loretta herself just do it? She looks fabulous.

I love that movie so much! And I've been wishing for a stage production for YEARS. I don't know if Deschanel is right for the part or not since I haven't seen her Loretta Lynn impersonation, but who knows? I never would have imagined Spacek for the role, either. Honestly, I'll just be thrilled if they construct the show well and don't wind up with another Urban Cowboy fiasco.

You know, I really liked her until those iPhone commercials where she HAS TO ASK HER PHONE IF IT'S RAINING.

Loretta and Dolly are nice, but they are second raters.

They should be building a story around Patsy Cline. The voice, the personality, the life all come together to make a much more exciting show. (Yes, I know there was a tepid off-Broadway production about her, but the premise was not well thought out).

Carlos- Good! But I was being sincere in my asking you for examples of anything she's done, acted, or sang that suits Lynn's qualities and personality.

and RIJM- Those iPhone commercials are possibly the dumbest thing ever on tv and I have a vhs of Hee Haw Honnies somwhere.

The article says, "Plans for a stage adaptation are still in the beginning stages, with no creative team attached or workshop dates announced".

Therefore, who knows how long this thing will take to complete, or if it even gets to Broadway. Interesting that they announced a big star with basically nothing prepared.

"Therefore, who knows how long this thing will take to complete, or if it even gets to Broadway."

Paraphrasing ALW: "The shows are hyped before the scripts are typed"

Also reminds me of Lauren Ambrose in Funny Girl

There are several Patsy Cline shows. One plays on Cape Cod just about every year. Not saying there can't or shouldn't be a better one.

To Call Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn second raters is a bit harsh and funny considering the ammount of awards, credit, albums sold, sold out concerts STILL, and respect they have. Both also have terrific theatrical personalities and interesting life/career stories.

Funny I don't like Ambrose but I think she'd make an interesting Loretta.

Patsy Cline was the Judy Garland of country music. She took a twangy music and turned it into art. Nobody has been able to touch her performance of Crazy.

Dolly always had too much vibrato and Loretta is a very average singer.

I'm in no way defaming PatsyI own many of her albunms and would gladly see a Patsy show too. You don't have to buy a Dolly or Loretta cd, movie, show ticket, etc. But to COMPLETELY write them off like that isn't fair.

You seem to be judging purely on on vocal ability and if this were American Idol sure, but you're discounting the larger than life personalities and personas that make them special. They both have a magnetic It quiality that make them loved. It's not how they SING it, it's HOW they sing it. They bring emotion, interpritation and phrasing to songs (ones they've won many mnay wirting awards for). Listen to Dolly's "I Will Always Love You." Is it vocally impressive as Whitney's? No, but hers is far more heartfelt and emotionally raw.

I'm in no way saying Patsy didn't have thse same qualities too. She of course did and is one of the greatest country singers of all time. I'm merely pointing out that Dolly and Loretta are widely loved, respected, and influential. I actually bet you won't be able to find one bad word said about Dolly personally.

Don't mean to fan a flame. I agree with you that Patsy was talented and mean no disrespect or smarm.:)

In the history of the world, there were only 6 great women singers:

Judy Garland
Patsy Cline
Billie Holiday
Ella Fitzgerald
Georgia Brown
Adele

That's it! Every other chanteuse is a crow compared to these songbirds.

In the Bible, the book of Revelation says that when the seventh seal was opened, there was silence in Heaven for half an hour. I have no doubt that the opening of the seventh seal signifies an invitation has been received to a concert of these six women on the same stage.

Do you mean Foghorn Ethel Merman? Sure the girl had lungs, and when she was doing Gypsy on Broadway, the coast guard in Hoboken could hear her, but power doesn't replace nuance.

I'll even go one step more and defend my choices:

Judy Garland - does she even need defense? Even when her voice was shot, she could break your heart with Over the Rainbow.

Patsy Cline - she had the same emotional connection to a song that Judy had. Her singing had a ballsy-ness to it.

Billie Holiday - listen to God Bless the Child. She was drunk when she recorded that. If you can put over that song while drunk, then you are definitely a great singer.

Ella Fitzgerald - listen to Mack the Knife on her Berlin album. She forgets the words (while performing in Germany no less!!) and still goes right on with the song. She just starts scatting her heart out. And I dare you to listen to A Tiskit A Tasket and not think she is the cutest thing to come along.

Georgia Brown - her As Long As He Needs Me will break your heart. And listen to her Alabama Song -- the girl knew how to let loose.

Adele - if you can put 5 hits on the charts from just two albums, while looking like a server at The Hofbrau Haus, then you deserve to be on the list. Judy would have killed for material like "Someone Like You" which did I mention that Adele wrote?

Dolly and Loretta are second raters-please check yourself. They may not have the "voice" but they are two of the most respected female singer song writers in all of music. Not to mention feminist icons who overcame poverty, sexism and many other turbulent personal issues to rise to stardom and stay there.

Everyone thinks Dolly is all peaches and cream but she has dealt with poverty, a bipolar mothers, losing children, sexual harassment, depression, suicidal thoughts and weight issues. Her life story is a fascinating one. She has a wonderful story to tell.

Zooey is one of the producers on New Girl so that may have something to do with her being able to commit to this. How old is Loretta? Is it possible she's ill or concerned that she may not make it to seeing this production actually get onstage so she wants to make it crystal clear she's giving Zooey her blessing & that's why they're announcing w/out much of anything actually done yet?
