I LOVED it. I love how these actors make it seem so spontaneous even when it's not the first time this vote has happened. I'm mad I've never seen Jessie or Andy as murderer though.
I was there for the matinee on 1/9. I quite enjoyed seeing Alison Cimmet as Puffer. I thought she did a great job. It's not quite the same as seeing Chita, but I did enjoy her performance.
Datchery: Bazzard Murderer: Rosa Bud Lovers: Helena and Deputy
Datchery: Bazzard Murderer: Helena Lovers: Rosa and Deputy
I enjoyed Alison as Puffer, her voice was quite beautiful. She didn't have the same spunk that Chita has, but she was quite good. I was very excited to see Rosa as a lover, I've seen Puffer mostly with a couple Helena thrown in there. Betsy really didn't disappoint, her facial expressions during the Perfect Strangers reprise were hysterical.
Chita was still out as of the 1/13 matinee, as well as Will Chase.
Which I saw with:
DATCHERY: Helena Landless MURDERER: Bazzard (I was very happy of this, as in my opinion Benson steals the show.) LOVERS: Helena and Durdles, which was a hoot.
Oh, I so agree! Peter's confession is BRILLIANT, he's hilarious! Will Chase was out this weekend because he attended the Golden Globes with Debra Messing.
I was so happy Bazzard got voted for something last night. He landed in the final rounds of each of the votings..
BTW, at the stage door, both Gregg Edelman and Stephanie J. Block both said they will know within the next week whether or not they will extend until Tony time
1/20: Datchery: Helena Murderer: Bazzard Lovers: Helena & Neville The audience LOVED Helena today! PS: Chita was still out. Allison was fine. Betsy sounded off to me for some reason today, but still wonderful.
At the matinee today, Chita was given roses onstage by various cast mates, in character. After the final bow, a cake was brought onstage for her, and the company and audience sang happy birthday to her.
Bazzard was Datchery, Rosabud was the murderer, and Chita and Durdles were the lovers.
Does anyone know if they ever fix the voting? I hesitate to ask publicly, but I saw the show tonight and the call made for the lovers was pretty blatantly not the one with the louder applause. Most cast members were motioning towards the person who got the louder cheers, and it was called differently for some reason. Are there certain performances that the votes are manipulated for some reason?
I really doubt that the voting for the lovers is ever fixed. It can be really hard to judge from the audience because people are yelling and applauding from all over the theater. Depending on where you're seated, your perspective on that can be quite skewed. From the stage, though, you can see and hear everything.
So what was the rundown tonight? Who won, and who did you think should have?
