We were a Bedknobs and Broomsticks house instead of a Mary Poppins house, so Dame Angela has always held a special place in my heart.
May she rest in peace.

I am truly heartbroken. Gosh. Not many deaths get me but--what a legend. So so sad about this

Saw her twice on Broadway and have watched the CD of her Mrs, Lovett more times than even a theatre-loving gay should.
In her 96 years she gave so many memorable performances and exuded a grace and humility some of today's celebrities would be wise to emulate.
This is heartbreaking! So glad I got to see her on stage in my lifetime. May she rest in peace, and what a stamp to have left in the world.

It is so sad. I'm so glad I got to see her a good number of times.
I remember seeing her in BLITHE SPIRIT in 2015 at the Ahmanson in Los Angeles. The next day, at work, I was trying to show colleagues the crazy dance moves she does in the show...and I couldn't make it through two seconds without grabbing onto my desk to keep from falling over! She was 89 and had decades on me!
Her daughter, Deidre, used to own ENZO & ANGELA, a really great Italian restaurant in a strip mall on Wilshire Blvd. I used to eat there a lot as it was across the street from where I worked. On several occasions I saw Angela sitting alone in a corner having lunch. I never bothered her, but it was great to see her there!

The greatest and the most legendary musical theatre actress of all time, that hurts.
Legend is an understatement, rest in peace!
So sad, but what a life. Her performance in Sweeny is one for the ages; probably the most brilliant performance I have ever seen. We gotta find out whodunit! Rest in peace.
Absolute legend. Such a sweet lady.
A life privilege to have seen her in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC and DRIVING MISS DAISY, plus all her recordings and films. A true legend. What a life. What a career! It makes SWEENEY TODD and DEAR WORLD next year even more import and special. Please do her justice!!

Angela’s only done 4 shows on Broadway in my lifetime, but I feel so thankful to have been able to see all of them. I even skipped my college graduation to see one. She was incredibly kind and wonderful to everyone when she came out after the show to sign.
I also feel very grateful to have seen the one-night production of Earnest that she did for Roundabout a few years ago. It was an amazing night and she was spectacular. I’ll never forget her walking off stage and taking a moment to raise her cane up over her head - of course to thunderous applause - right before she left the stage.
A legend who will truly be missed.
Just five days before her 97th birthday - how sad.

This hurts. Angela is obviously a queen, but her work brought me so much joy in the last year while I took care of a dying parent. A life well-lived. Rest In Peace.

I often listen to the opening night audio of “A Little Priest”, because her line delivery of “Good you got it” never fails to crack me up. RIP in the most peace to the mayoress.

Rest in peace, dear Angela!
I saw you perform on stage only once...but also seen your work in other mediums.
Thanks for the memories!
I remember back in the late 80s / early 90s when ALW first talked about his musical 'Sunset Boulevard', he said he was creating it for Lansbury to star in the West End production. Then he said he wanted Shirley MacLaine to open the Broadway production. A lot of theater press picked up on it. Neither actress was interested (Lansbury was still starring in 'Murder, She Wrote' which finally ended in 1996).
I've always wondered what it would have been like if Lansbury or MacLaine said yes - it really would've been a different musical than we got with Lupone and Close.
