"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

I remember the talk of the season was that Drood was a frontrunner for Best Revival and then the ART production of Pippin opened then announced a transfer. I don't know why that stands out so much, but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this revival of Pippin on my first trip to New York.

As of right now, that production remains the best Broadway musical revival I have ever seen.

I have to agree. It was an incredible production. It left me breathless and choking back tears by the end.

I am also lucky and proud to have been a small part of it. I was part of that large choir they assembled for "No Time At All". We recorded at a venue on the Upper West Side just off of the park. I was pinching myself the whole time! Steven Schwartz was so impressed that he re-wrote the ending harmonies just for us to do. The icing on the cake was when I opened the CD and there in the center was a picture of the choir. I was actually able to locate myself in the picture. So I am on the Cast Recording. I wanted to see it a second time but was unable to do so.

Here's a little story. Hope you can take a moment to read.

I fell in love with the cast recording during the covid shutdown! I listened to it non-stop to keep my hopes up about Broadway returning. Back in 2021, I was at Moulin Rouge, my first show back since the shutdown, I met none other than Matthew James Thomas! I was so happy to meet him and he was so incredibly sweet! I told him I listened to him on the cast album during the lockdown. I even asked him if he would ever play Pippin again and he said absolutely! During the summer of 2021, my summer theatre played host to a two-person circus show that starred Viktoria Grimmy from the ensemble of the OG revival cast. That woman is an insanely talented acrobat! She told me so many stories about her time in the show and how it was one of the best years of her life. I am an aspiring director and hope to one day direct a production like this. Diane Paulus' version is just a masterpiece. The circus theme really helps with telling the story. However, I think it can be further expanded. Expanded even more to make the audience a part of the show. Overall, this show is just a treasure!

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

Before this production I never realy could get into the show. I tried the original cast recording, tried the filmed version of the original tour, and nothing. Then I finally saw the non-equity tour of the show, and I realized why this show made an impact with so many people. The tour cast was really good...although, the 22 year old actress in old age makeup as Berthe was a choice.
