Hello all. John Tartaglia is hosting a new show (on Sundays) on Sirius XM on Broadway. It runs from 2 p.m.--8 p.m. CST. As I was driving, I heard some of his interesting views concerning theatre chat boards. He was real nice about it. He's generally a nice and positive individual, I think. Basically, he mentioned that there are quite a few mean-spirited folk in theatre chat boards (I guess he's talking about ATC. teehee). I guess that includes BWW. He calmly asks people to be nicer, as theatre professionals do wade into our chat boards from time to time. Something that struck me as (slightly) funny was a quote that he attributed to Julia Murney. According to John Tartaglia, Julia Murney calls theatre chat boards... "the devil's spawn." Those were his exact words. (Oh... Bonnie Franklin is singing "Applause" on Sirius XM right now. Sigh.) Anyway, while I do agree that there are some real mean people in here, I wouldn't describe us (BWW and that other site) quite so colorfully as Julia Murney did. One other thing that he mentioned was that those "meanies" in theatre chat boards hide behind their anonymity and inflict their mean spirited comments. I would like to say that although there are quite a few people who derive great pleasure in (sometimes) unfair personal comments, not all BWW members are like that. Well, just in case John Tartaglia or some other theatre professional is reading this, my name is Roman Castillo Jr. from Austin, Texas...and I approve this message. P.S. This gif is for you Johnny boy.
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
But really I've never read any anti- John Tartaglia or Julia Murney diatribes. I remember a couple "He's so cute" threads that drew some "I beg to differs" but those two get nothing compared to The Creature Known as Patti LuPone or ever Kristen "MO Botox!" Chenoweth, let along shows like Memphis or Wicked.
I'm not understanding the problem here. The internet has now given every person on Earth a microphone, not just a privileged few. The internet is the great equalizer. Don't like what they say? Don't tune into their station.
And I've never seen John Tartaglia or Julia Murney perform.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
I happen to like Julia Murney. Though I've never had a chance to see her perform live, there are quite a few videos out there of her. I can understand why Broadway performers might be hesitant to visit our little community. I still remember how some people in this forum were extremely mean towards Nick Adams.
