Hi. This was the only original question I could think of on short notice. Anyway, I have some favorite Broadway diva songs: "Memory", "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", "As If We Never Said Goodbye", to name a few. Has there ever been a show/concert where male singers perform those beloved Broadway standards? I personally would love to hear John Barrowman sing "As If We Never Said Goodbye" (from "Sunset Boulevard"). I would buy such a recording. Any thoughts? What male singer would you love to hear interpret a song made famous by a woman? No verbal arrows please. from Roman in Austin, Texas... the official Patti LuPone FANatic
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
Broadway leading men dont get their solo albums as frequently as the divas and also rans. This is one actor I would kill to have a solid broadway album. His tone is so rich and vibrant.
*still miffed they didnt record Baby at Papermill, it was gorgeous grrr!*

Michael Ball has recorded quite a few diva songs ( mostly from his THE MUSICALS, CENTRE STAGE, THE MOVIES CDs) --
*Memory *With One Look *I Dreamed A Dream *Show Me ( My Fair Lady) *Don't Rain on my Parade *Send in the Clowns *You'll Never Walk Alone ( originally sung by a woman in CAROUSEL) *Loving You ( Passion) *Tell Me On a Sunday (Song and Dance) *Tell Me It's Not True ( Blood Brothers) *Wind Beneath My Wings ( movies) *My Heart Will Go On ( movies) *The Way We Were (movies) *Padam, Padam ( Edith Piaf) *You Made Me Love You ( Judy Garland ?) *Cry Me A River ( Julie London) *Stormy Weather (Lena Horne)
It is a nice pipe dream to imagine what it would be like to hear Bea Arthur (one of my favorite male singers) sing Bosom Buddies from Mame. If only there were some way to make that happen. Oh well. While we're dreaming, I'd also like to hear Lucille Ball's skeleton sing "It's Today!"
Michael Crawford also recorded "Memory" 15 years ago, and the version is... umm... interesting... The same cd includes "Wishing You Were..." and "Tell Me On A Sunday".
