I'll be visiting NYC in May with my nephew who is easily bored and slightly agoraphobic, as well as my elderly aunt who is a touch racist and prone to inappropriate outbursts. She's also a bit hard of hearing. The last member of my party will be my theater-hating boyfriend.

Can anyone recommend a show for the four of us to see? Preferably one that has discounts available as I don't want to pay full price.

I can't stand Patti LuPone so I DO NOT want to see Evita.

thank you!

ROCK OF AGES

Your autistic nephew will be able to get up and move around if he's feeling agoraphobic and can just go meet drunk girls if he's bored. Your elderly aunt can have as many inappropriate outbursts as she wants and nobody will be able to hear her since everyone will be screaming something at the same time. And since you won't be the only ones doing it, you can blow your theater-hating boyfriend during the show so he'll have a good time.

There's a ton of discounts out there and luckily Patti isn't in it and EVITA died. So there ya go!

Rock of Ages? I don't usually care for religious shows.

Newsies or Matilda maybe? They are quite safe bets.

NEWSIES has a colored woman singing so that's out of the question for Auntie Rae Cyst.

Thank you Jordan. I knew you'd understand.

I should add, she was banned from the Eugene O'Neill because of the scene she caused during Caroline or Change. But that's OK, I don't think we want to see an O'Neill show this trip. (I love him but we just saw The Odd Couple at a dinner theater).

Ooh, Ooh! Sleep No More! Sleep No More!

But Patti did star in Les Miserables in London, which is in Great Britian, which has Scotland, on top of some play about Scottish people that Sleep No More touches on. So, no.

The Boy From OZ.

Hugh Jackman is giving the performance of his life 8 times a weekly, he is a lock for a Tony already.

Scottish? Isn't there a show about Americans?

Of course there aren't many shows about Americans. This is America!

Perhaps a revival of the black and white minstrel show might be perfect for you?

Book of Mormon! Now, before Auntie Rae can object, keep in mind that they kind of de-race the Ugandans anyways. She'd approve!

Now, how is the nephew about those profane words?

He's 14 but home-schooled so I don't think he'd recognize profanity. But any whiff of sacrilege causes him to weep uncontrollably. I can't imagine there's anything like that in a Mormon show though, right?

There's nothing negative at all in The Book of Mormon. I've read the book. It's a classic.

Is that show with Karen Cartwright playing in May?

Do not subject your boyfriend to that. Wait... how serious is this relationship? Are you looking for an out?

I thought this was serious but realize by the responses, this is some kind of joke. With that in mind..

My suggestion, go see the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty. Just be forewarned, the stairs to get to your seat for either show are a killer but once you are there, you will have a great view.

But the stairs will give your boyfriend the ass you've always wanted him to have.

His ass is all but perfect already.

I'm hurt so many people aren't taking my query seriously. I thought helping total strangers pick shows was the sacred obligation of every theater message board member.
