Another victim of Hurricane Sandy. I thought the writing was so-so but the cast was hilarious. Mixed reviews, yes, but it didn't deserve such a quick closure. I'm guessing the producers ran out of money to keep the show afloat until word of mouth sunk in. Hopefully, someone will buy the film rights. I can picture Will Ferrell as Chuck Wood.

OUCH! Saw this in preview, pre Sandy. The reviews were fair. A talented cast and a so-so script. Certainly not everyone's cup of tea or sense of humor. But not to make it through Thanksgiving? Opening one day, announced closing the next. Top billing one day, next day you're touring in stock. Sorry it ended this soon.

"wow, the producers must have no faith. I think they are throwing in the towel a little to early, the reviews were mixed, not terrible."
Credit to the producers for cutting their losses. So many shows hang on when they shouldnt and end up losing even more money. They know what the advance sale is.

It's too bad for the actors, but this is one show that never should have been produced.
One critic called it "wretched," and he summed it up exactly.
Let's hope the actors will soon get a play worthy of their talents, and one which will not bring embarrassment either to themselves or the audience.
THE PERFORMERS to Close on Sunday

Its run is probably too short for preservation in the Lincoln Center archives, so it's a shame the performances--especially Cheyenne Jeackson's (in that very funny first scene) and Ari Graynor's will not be captured for posterity. (I'll bet "Chuck Wood" could fashion a memorable joke out of that last word with a deft mispronuncation.)

I'm sad about this; I actually had a ticket booked for early next year, clearly I was one of the few people who did! It's a cute and fun show but its very slight. Also Graynor was essentially playing Jennifer Tillys Olive from Bullets. She even completely nicked the voice. She was fine but didn't blow me away.

I get the comparisons to Tilly, but so much of it is just Ari's natural voice so I find them a bit unfair. As comedically brilliant as Jennifer Tilly was in BULLETS, Ari Graynor is equally brilliant in this. Yes, the material is not for everyone but for a satire on the porn industry I think it's pretty damn fantastic and I'm really sad I won't get to see it again.

Saw it this afternoon. Had a better time than I expected and frankly thought the cast was terrific. Ari Graynor(sp?) in particular was very, very funny and inventive. Much better than I had anticipated and very unfortunate that this show(or any show for that matter) is closing so early. Still, this was an instance where the production was superior to the material itself. I'm glad a I got it see it before it closed. A bunch of pros having silly fun is a perfectly fine way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I saw this on Saturday, and Ari was freaking brilliant. Just so funny and so hilarious with just the smallest of vocal inflection.
The rest of cast was great, as well. I thought Cheyenne Jackson lost steam about halfway through. His first scene was great, but then he just sorta went onto auto-pilot. Winkler was fine, nothing bad. However, whenever Ari wasn't on stage, I just kept hoping and wishing she'd come back. Her fight with the big boobs girl was priceless.
I was actually surprised how many of the old people around me were cracking up and getting into it. I mean, it's a little awkward to laugh at cumshot jokes, but you know, that's life.

I saw it on Sunday purely to see Ari, but I was actually surprisingly charmed by the show. I think it could've found an audience and had a nice little run if they'd had the funds to give it some more time. Sad to see this close.

Scarywarhol-
I think that was the play's point- to take an extremely taboo industry/group of people and present them in an a very familiar, traditional fashion. I thought it was a really fun pairing of form and content that kept me laughing from start to finish.
I'll still be sad come Tony time if this show (ie Graynor) is, in fact, ineligible.

This play was the theatrical equivalent of an "American Pie" movie. It doesn't deserve any award nods. Was it fun? Yes. Were the actors committed? Yes. Did the audience laugh? Yes. But it was really slight and hollow.
Graynor was really funny, but I don't feel like she was a revelation or was breaking new ground. I don't think it was a Tony worthy performance. I really need to feel like I'd never seen an interpretation before for it to be fresh or Tony worthy-like Nina Arianda in Born Yesterday and Venus in Fur.
