At thee end of this video released a couple days ago. Of David Armstron announcing the broadway transfer of scandolous, David made the note of saying that another 5th avenue work would be headed to The great white way and would be announced soon. I'm thinking Aladdin.

If what I overheard yesterday is true, your not far off, but its going to have major revisions before that happens. Don't be surprised if it takes residences on "Broadway" in a "theater" by the spring.....

I could see 5th's Aladdin being like Shrek. Horrible on Broadway, FAN-TASTIC with changes on tour.

Shrek was fantastic on tour? We must have seen two very different productions. What I saw was cute and mildly entertaining, but far from fantastic. It was still in previews in Chicago though. To my knowledge they opted to recast Lord Farquaad shortly after it left Chi-town, which is a shame because he was the single truly fantastic thing about the production.

Aladdin is way too cartoony to lend itself to Broadway. Fun movie, but not serious enough to be taken seriously in NY. People are also overexposed to it, through theme park shows and the rights being available regionally. Let's just get Hunchback on Broadway, pretty please!!!

^ Have you seen whats on Broadway recently? And also people were overexposed to The Lion King also that show sure is struggling.... You will see Aladdin on Broadway before you see Hunchback.

I meant LIVE productions of the Lion King. They didn't release right to do stage productions of the Lion King before it went to Broadway. There were some small theme parks shows, like parades, but no full staged theatrical ones like they've done with Aladdin. That's what I meant by overexposed. Thought it was obvious.

That announcement was made a couple months ago to the public, so if it is A Christmas story I would think he would've said the title. This sounded like a show that hadn't had an official press release yet.

Actually TheHappyPhantom The Lion King has had a regularly running stage show at Disney's Animal Kingdom for 14 years now. Doing 9 shows a day every day. I'd say that Lion King had a fair deal of exposure.

IF there was Broadway production, would there be an uproar over the use of non-Middle Eastern actors? Why is it OK to use white folks in KISMET, but not The King and I or Flower Drum Song?

The only current licensed production is Aladdin JR. Disney still has hold on the other.

Please no! The Muny production of this was dreadful. Not saying that the production company itself was not at fault for some of the choices but the script itself ugh. All that pretending to not know when you exit and breaking character to have asides really took away from the show. And truth be told most of the newer songs are not that enjoyable.

Also, I believe PlayItAgain was hinting that ALADDIN will open at the Broadway Theatre, but that will not happen (unless Disney changes their business plans). Disney only uses Nederlander houses for their productions. The Broadway is owned by the Shuberts. While yes, Sister Act is produced by Disney and is the Broadway's current tenant, it is not inherently a Disney-created or helmed production, or one solely produced by DTP. They were only brought in as a producer because the film was produced by a subsidiary of Walt Disney Pictures.

I think the next big Disney show will likely replace Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam. I think Disney will wait a few years before launching a new show given the ongoing success of The Lion King and Newsies with Mary Poppins chugging along nicely.

If NEWSIES wasnt a HUGE hit I would say yes and it would likly tansfer by the end of 2013, but it is so it has to wait for Disney to close Poppins.

While I agree the next Disney show to close will more than likely be POPPINS, DTP execs have told cast members that they would like to get anther 5 years out of POPPINS, so ALADDIN could be waiting in the wings for awhile (as it is still doing million-dollar business).
I think Disney is set for a good while on Broadway for the time being. They need to take this time to develop other potential productions extensively so that by the time they do get to Broadway, they are great shows. I would also like to see them do something with MERMAID and revamp it into a great show as I feel the material deserves it.
