At a young age Monica Simoes became a fan of the stage forever. She always dreamt of being a part of theatrical magic. However, those dreams seemed thwarted by her inability to carry a note and her two left feet. Yet, that minor speed bump didn't stop her. She has melded her passion for theatre and her photographic skill to capture the essence of Broadway. Monica is currently a student at Parsons the New School for Design. She hopes to continue enjoying all that Broadway has to offer through the viewfinder of her camera.

On Friday, Theatre for a New Audience broke ground on its new home in a city-owned parking lot in the growing BAM Cultural District, located at 262 Ashland Place bet Lafayette Avenue and Fulton Street in Brooklyn. Set to open in April 2013, the Hugh Hardy-designed, 27,500-square-foot building will house a 3-level 299-seat theatre, a rehearsal room, public lobby and various supporting spaces, providing a state-of-the-art venue for the theater company's interpretations of Shakespeare and classical drama. It will be the first permanent residence for the 32-year-old theatre company, the first classical theatre built in New York City in more than four decades and only the second new theatre to be built from the ground up in Brooklyn in more than 50 years.

Stella is a Star and so is Bernadette Peters, who, if all goes to plan, will be seen back on Broadway later this summer in FOLLIES. As part of the Animal Tales Extravaganza at the Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo, Bernadette Peters read and signed her latest children's book, Stella Is A Star to audiences at the zoo on Saturday, June 25. Following the reading, Bernadette sang Broadway Barks, an original song from her first children's book of the same name.

LCT3's production of 4000 Miles, a new play by Amy Herzog, directed by Daniel Aukin, opened last night, June 20 at The Duke on 42nd Street, a New 42nd Street project. LCT3 is Lincoln Center Theater's programming initiative devoted to producing the work of new artists and developing new audiences. 4000 Miles is the final of three productions during its 2010-2011 season.

The Public Theater began previews on Monday, June 6 for the 2011 Shakespeare in the Park summer season featuring MEASURE FOR MEASURE, directed by David Esbjornson, and ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL, directed by Daniel Sullivan. Nominations in 26 competitive categories for the American Theatre Wing's 65th Annual Antoinette Perry 'Tony' Awards were announced May 3, 2011 by Tony Award winning actor Matthew Broderick and Tony Award winning actress Anika Noni Rose, at the Tony Award Nominations Announcement sponsored by IBM. The nominees were selected by an independent committee of 22 theatre professionals appointed by the Tony Awards Administration Committee. The 2011 Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.

The New York Philharmonic is presenting Stephen Sondheim's groundbreaking Company, with an all-star cast led by Neil Patrick Harris (Robert). The concert production played its first show last night and BroadwayWorld was on hand for the starry arrivals! The award-winning musical is being produced and directed by Lonny Price, who directed and co-produced last season's SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert!, and is being conducted by Sondheim specialist Paul Gemignani, with the original orchestrations for a 35-piece orchestra by Jonathan Tunick. The concert runs through April 9, 2011.
