My last blog for Broadwayworld.com! What an interesting experience this has been for me to write about opening SCANDALOUS this past month. I usually try to stay slightly anonymous, and have never really written anything publicly, but I have enjoyed this challenge. I thank Christina Mancuso for inviting me to do so, and of for her leniency with my shaky deadlines!

Please allow me to introduce you to the fantastic team that helps you hear us each night here at SCANDALOUS. Designed and led by Ken Travis, the SCANDALOUS Sound Guys are Lucas Indelicato and Charles Grieco. They are responsible for the day to day operation of the sound board and all the mics for the cast and orchestra.

What a wonderful night we had on Thursday, when SCANDALOUS opened on Broadway. There is nothing more magical than when all the hard work comes together and all the creative forces collide in one place!

I am reflecting this morning on the glory of live theatre and the community that makes it. As we prepare to open SCANDALOUS tomorrow night at the Neil Simon Theatre, it just staggers me to think about all the many people that have given most of the hours of their days for the past three months to get to this point. Every single department on this production has given above and beyond the 'normal'. In fact, it is incredible. The definition of 'incredible' is: so extraordinary as to seem impossible.

What a fun weekend we had at SCANDALOUS! So many friends and family passed thru the doors of the Neil Simon. It was the start of the whole lead up to our opening night, November 15.

Another week of SCANDALOUS rehearsals and previews. A lot of changes planned for this week. So far, I'm really proud of our creative team. They have managed to cut over 15 minutes off the show, tightened its focus and its storytelling, and been very brave with the cuts. Last week we even cut a song, DEMON IN A DRESS, which was sung by two-time Tony winner George Hearn (he was so gracious about it - a fine example of professionalism. We all worship and adore him). But by the end of last week, we were all pretty worn out. The combination of an already nearly impossible schedule during previews, and then the stress of hurricane Sandy and its transportation challenges was a lot for even the hardiest of theatre folk!
BWW Blog: Meet SCANDALOUS' Elizabeth Ward Land - The New Normal
November 3, 2012
Wow! My first BroadwayWorld.com Blog! I had every intention to blog from the point of view of an average, 'normal' working actress in the throes of helping create a brand new Broadway show, thru rehearsals, previews and opening. Then, Hurricane Sandy (are we still calling it that- or is it 'SuperStorm Sandy'?) came, and I realize - there is no more 'normal' for all of us, at least not any time soon.
