Fresh off the successful opening of the Asia-Pacific tour of Do You Hear The People Sing? in Shanghai, international musical theatre stars Lea Salonga, David Harris and Marie Zamora will reunite in Manila for two special benefit concerts to aid victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

Do You Hear The People Sing? is a concert celebration of the works of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, whose collaborations have given the world the iconic musicals Les Miserables, and Miss Saigon. Both shows will be presented as major revivals in 2014, and Do You Hear The People Sing? offers music theatre fans the opportunity to revisit many of the beloved songs from these musicals, along with highlights from other works produced by Boublil and Schönberg, including Martin Guerre and The Pirate Queen.

For these special shows in January, theatre-goers will also have the chance to contribute to rebuilding efforts across the Philippines; proceeds from the two gala concerts will be directed to programs assisting people affected by the devastation of Typhoon Yolanda.

Presented by Bouberg Productions, Resort World Manila, and Enda Markey, the Australian-based producer of the Asia-Pacific tour of Do You Hear The People Sing?, the aim is to raise enough funds to enable Habitat for Humanity Philippines to build 200 homes for victims of the typhoon. To assist in this aim, it has been announced on the show's website that there will also be a charity auction of memorabilia - further information on the opportunity to purchase a piece (or two!) of musical theatre history for this important cause is coming soon.

The musical Miss Saigon in particular has a deep connection to the Philippines. The very first Miss Saigon herself, Lea Salonga, is a Filipina singer and actress who was already a star in her native country before her role as Kim catapulted her to international stardom. Since that first fateful trip to the Philippines to cast the original Miss Saigon, many talented Filipino performers have appeared in productions of Miss Saigon around the world. For these Do You Hear The People Sing? benefit concerts in Manila, Salonga will be joined by members of this Filipino Miss Saigon community, along with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra and a 100-member choir. Gerard Salonga is Musical Director of the truly international affair, with Australian leading man David Harris, and the original French Cosette, Marie Zamora rounding out the cast. All performers will be donating their time and their talent to the cause.
