Ars Nova presents, as part of the Out Loud series, a FREE reading of PURE, by A. Rey Pamatmat, directed by Lisa Peterson. The cast of PURE will feature Steven Boyer, Maggie Lacey, Nancy Robinette and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Alan Turing, the queer, British mathematician whose ideas would usher in the digital age, works obsessively to complete his great work: a machine capable of thinking, learning, and - one day - living. But when his life and work are put on trial, Alan must confront the painful connection between his pursuit of artificial life and his first love's death.

A. Rey Pamatmat's play Pure was commissioned by the E.S.T./Alfred P. Sloan Science and Technology Project. His play Thunder Above, Deeps Below was developed at the 2008 O'Neill National Playwrights' Conference after being presented by Second Generation (2g) at the National Asian-American Theatre Conference. His short plays Ain't Meat and 1260 Minute Life premiered in The Open Road Anthology at the 2007 Humana Festival of New American Plays. Rey is a 2008 - 09 NYFA Playwriting Fellow, a member of the Ma-Yi Theater Company's Writer's Lab, and will be representing Ma-Yi at the 2009 Battle of the Bards in late February. Productions include: Deviant (Vortex Theater, NYIT Award nomination for Outstanding New Script), Red Rover at Vampire Cowboys' Saturday Night Saloon, and High/Limbo/High at Queer@HERE. Other commissions: Mabou Mines (as a 2005 - 06 Resident Artist) and 2g. Development: Playwrights' Horizons, Ma-Yi, Rattlestick, The Lark, New Dramatists, and the HB Playwrights' Foundation. Other full-length plays include: Beautiful Day; New; Unstick the Woman; and Picture 24. B.F.A.: NYU, Drama. M.F.A.: Yale School of Drama, Playwriting.
