'Zap!' Electrifying Theater

ZAP! Is Electrifying!

Florida Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce the Feb. 28 opening of the electrifying play, ZAP!, presented in partnership with LCEC, in it's Lunchbox Theatre Series.

Sponsored by Pamela Templeton & Fort Myers Toyota, the series for children & families brings theatre to life every Saturday morning through April 11 in the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in the Fort Myers River District.

In an unprecedented revival, ZAP! is back for a second season in the Lunchbox Theatre Series, and is an electrifying play about electricity! Written by award-winning playwright, Eric Coble, ZAP! was commissioned specially by Florida Rep and Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) in 2007, and will educate children of all ages about the many wonders of electricity - history, safety and conservation. Audiences join Joanna Wilcox, a girl who doesn't ask why the lights come on or what powers her flat screen TV, on a zany and colorful journey of electric proportions! With the help of Zap, an Electrical Super Hero, and the three other Stimulating Spirits, Joanna travels through time to learn how to "Get Smart, Get Safe, and Get Saving!"

"ZAP! has surpassed LCEC's expectations. Florida Rep and Eric Coble created a play that teaches children about electric history, safety and conservation, and as a bonus, it is highly entertaining for the entire family," said Karen Ryan, Public Relations Manager for LCEC. "I have seen it more than a dozen times and each time I am amazed at the talent and engaging story the performance offers."

ZAP! features the talents of Jack Benton, Trey Gerrald, Jessica Leach and Mary-Margaret Roberts, Florida Rep's season long Performance Interns, who perform in each of the three Children's Theatre offerings as well as on the Arcade stage.

"I am so excited for these young artists to share their work with our audiences," said ZAP! director, Rachel Burttram. "This is a revival, and this cast has really done a lot of work to make this play their own, and I am proud of that work."

Tickets to the Lunchbox Theatre Series are $12, and admission includes the performance, a boxed lunch provided by Jason's Deli and an interactive workshop with the cast. ZAP! plays on February 28, March 7, 14 and 21.

Cinderella Confidential plays on April 4.

Schoolhouse Rock, LIVE! closes the Lunchbox Theatre Series on April 11.
