Zach James & Friends Set For Concert at Birdland 12/12

The Broadway at Birdland concert series has announced the return of Zach James, currently starring as Lurch in Broadway’s The Addams Family, along with many friends, to celebrate the holidays at Birdland on Monday, December 12 at 7pm.

“Getting Through The Holidays” will find James, along with a bevy of Broadway and classical singers, story-tellers and comedians, including Jackie Hoffman (The Addams Family, Hairspray, Xanadu), Val Fagan (Forbidden Broadway, The Addams Family), Martin Sola (The King and I, La Boheme, Coram Boy), Lucy Sorensen (Radio City Christmas Spectacular), Eddie Cooper (Metropolis Opera Project), Karla Faggard (Metropolis Opera Project), Jasmin Norwood (Imbecile D’amour), Bertha Mason, Hausfrau of the Heartland & Cindy Sunday, The Songbird of Christ! Jonathan Rose will be at the piano.

Zachary James has appeared on Broadway in the original casts of Coram Boy, the Tony Award winning revival of South Pacific at Lincoln Center and as Lurch in the new musical, The Addams Family. A winner of the 2009 Lotte Lenya Competition, he has sung with Ash Lawn Opera (Madama Butterfly), Knoxville Opera (Madama Butterfly, Little Women), Central City Opera (Don Giovanni, The Ballad of Baby Doe, L'incoronazione di Poppea), the role of Oberon in the world premiere of Kristin Hevner's Il Sogno in Citta della Pieve, Umbria and in concert with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Symphony of the Mountains and as the baritone soloist in Carmina Burana. In the theatre world he has performed with The Bucks County Playhouse (Abner in Lil Abner), The York Theatre (Petr in The Toymaker), Theatre By The Sea (Miles Gloriosus in Forum), Pocono Playhouse, The Kitchen Theatre, Westport Country Playhouse and The Public Theatre. He has participated in the development of several pre-Broadway workshops and readings including Aaron Sorkin and Danny Elfman’s Houdini starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, Big Fish, Treasure Island, Creation, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Show People, The Golden Ticket, Murmers and Incantations, Red Eye of Love and more, and has appeared on TV and film as Carl on “30 Rock” and Ballion in”The Gift.” As the Founding Director of Metropolis Opera Project, Zach collaborates with composers, playwrights and librettists to develop and present new American opera to a new demographic of opera-goer. Since their inaugural production in 2008, Metropolis Opera Project has produced over a dozen events including full-length operas, an annual One Act Festival and new works festival, as well as several concerts, workshops and social events. Zach is a graduate of the Musical Theatre program at Ithaca College, where he was recently awarded the 2011 Outstanding Young Alumni Award.
