ZOMBIE Performed In Spanish; Thomas Caruso & More In Attendance

Award-winning actor/writer Bill Connington joined well-known Mexican actor Jorge Urzua for a reading of Connington's solo play ZOMBIE on May 6th. An industry audience was present at 353 Studios where Urzua performed Connington's adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates' novella for the first time in Spanish. Urzua will perform in a full production of the critically-acclaimed play in Mexico City.

In attendance was Thomas Caruso, the original director of ZOMBIE when it was performed at the New York International Fringe Festival, and for an extended run Off-Broadway. Caruso also directed the short film version of ZOMBIE, which is currently making the round of film festivals. Caruso is currently directing GREETINGS by Tom Dudzick for Penguin Rep Theatre. The film's producer was Michael Cooper. The composer was Deirdre Broderick.

Also in the audience was AnnMarie Benedict, Connington's co-star in LOVE LETTERS by A.R. Gurney, directed by Dan Cordle, which was performed at the New York Society Library earlier in the season. Connington directed Benedict earlier this season in Oates' play I STAND BEFORE YOU NAKED at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater as a benefit for Safe Horizon, the largest agency that aids victims of domestic violence.

ZOMBIE tells the story of a Jeffrey Dahmer-esque serial killer and sexual predator, who attempts to turn his victims into his "zombie" slaves. Urzua translated Connington's award-winning play into Spanish. Urzua has appeared in the films CRISTIADA with Andy Garcia and Eva Longoria, and BORDERTOWN with Antonio Banderas and Jennifer Lopez. Connington is currently penning the feature-length screenplay of ZOMBIE.
