Young Playwrights' Theater Honored for Excellence in Nonprofit Management

By:

On May 24, 2012, YPT was honored as one of five finalists for the Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management. During the Best Practices Celebration at the Washington Post offices, YPT was recognized for the organization's innovative and successful management policies and leadership, and invited to share management best practices with the local nonprofit community. During the award celebration, YPT was specifically recognized for the organization's collaborative staffing model.

On July 1, Deputy Director Brigitte Moore will become Acting Executive Director at YPT. Brigitte has been with YPT since 2006, and, in her role as Deputy Director, she directly supported outgoing Producing Artistic Director and CEO David Snider in planning, implementing and supervising YPT's organizational and artistic operations, while directing all YPT communications and fundraising activities. YPT Program Manager Nicole Jost will continue to lead the company's production and program activities.

"I am sad to leave this amazing company, but I am confident that I am leaving YPT in excellent hands," said Snider. "We currently have the strongest staff and board we have had in YPT's history, and, because of our innovative collaborative leadership model, we have a senior management team ready to step up and effectively lead the organization the day I step down."

Brian Kennedy, YPT's Board Chair during Mr. Snider's tenure, says, "We take great pride in having a member of the YPT family selected as a leader by a nationally prominent company like Arena Stage. Much work has gone into building a quality organization at YPT and we are confident that the effectiveness of the YPT model will continue to develop and attract quality arts non-profit leaders. We remain committed to doing the type of work that has brought us awards like the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities."

"David's leadership and skills took YPT to new levels, expanding our award-winning playwriting programs to more DC area classrooms and community audiences every year," adds Incoming Board Chair, Miriam Gonzales "A solid path has been laid and we're excited to continue YPT's pure and essential mission -- to teach students to express themselves clearly and creatively through the art of playwriting."

"At YPT, we work to build a culture driven by inspiration, creativity and joy, and supported by collaboration and teamwork," says incoming Acting Executive Director Brigitte Moore. "I believe in our staff, board, artists and students with all my heart, and I know we will continue to accomplish great things together."
