Who Wants Cake? Presents THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND

By:

From the company that brought you The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode comes another hilarious parody of a beloved TV show, Thank You For Being a Friend. Who Wants Cake? is thrilled to bring this unofficial musical parody inspired by The Golden Girls to Ferndale's Ringwald Theatre for an exclusive 4 week run beginning Saturday, July 16th. Written by Nick Brennan, with music and lyrics by Luke Jones and Jeff Thomson, Thank You For Being a Friend will play Saturdays and Mondays at 8pm and Sunday afternoons at 3pm through August 8th. Don't miss your chance to see your favorite Ringwald guys dress as your favorite Golden Girls!

Please Note: Thank You For Being a Friend contains adult situations.

In Thank You For Being a Friend four women (Blanchette, the varicose-veined vixen; Dorothea, the brainy ball-buster; Roz, the lovable airhead; and Sophie, the wisecracking spitfire) are spending their golden years together in a bungalow in Miami. All is peaceful until former N*SYNCer Lance Bass moves in next door and his rowdy all-night gay sex parties end up disrupting the girls' beauty sleep. When Dorthea demands that Bass cut it out, he challenges her to a bet: if the girls win the top prize in the Shady Oaks retirement home talent contest, he'll stop the parties, but if he wins the girls become his personal cleanup crew. What follows is a singing, dancing farce that could only derive from such an improbable situation.

The cast features Jamie Richards (Dorothea), Richard Payton (Blanchette), Joe Plambeck (Roz), Jeff Weiner (Sophie), Billy Dixon (Lance), and Rich Wilson (Cubby). The production is under the direction of Joe Bailey.

Who Wants Cake? opened the doors to their resident home, The Ringwald, in May of 2007 with Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy. Quickly, The Ringwald became a mainstay of Detroit's theatre community. Since opening their doors, Who Wants Cake? has been offering up slice after slice of successful shows including Southern Baptist Sissies, The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode, Jeffrey, Some Men, The Bad Seed, Rent, and Sordid Lives: It's a Drag!. Who Wants Cake? was named 2009 Best Theatrical Troupe by Real Detroit and The Ringwald was voted Best Place to See Local Theatre in the Metro Times BEST OF DETROIT issue in 2010 and 2011.

Thank You For Being a Friend opens Saturday, July 16th and plays through August 8th at 8pm on Saturday and Monday nights with 3pm Sunday matinees. Ticket prices are $20.00 for Saturday and Sunday performances and Monday nights are HALF OFF at only $10 a ticket. Tickets can be purchased at www.WhoWantsCakeTheatre.com or at the theatre box office. The Ringwald box office opens 45 minutes before performances and tickets can be purchased with cash or Visa/Mastercard.
