Wait Until Dark, the sixth production of the Covina Center for the Performing Arts’ premiere season, opens Thursday, October 30, for a three-week run, closing on Sunday, November 16. Directed by Mack Gilliland, Wait Until Dark is presented by the Covina Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) with all new design in a completely original production.
Wait Until Dark stars Melissa Brandzel as Susy Hendrix, Jeff Klein as Harry Roat Jr. and Ken Campbell as Mike Talman. Mr. Campbell was most recently seen at CCPA as The Actor in Enter The Guardsman, Ms. Brandzel and Mr. Klein will make their CCPA debuts in this production.Wait Until Dark is a terrifying psychological thriller that pits a blind woman against heroin smugglers in a plot that involves murder, a mysterious doll and the darkness that comes when the lights go out. A sinister con man, Roat, and two ex-convicts, Mike and Carlino, traced the location of a mysterious doll to the Greenwich Village apartment of Sam Hendrix and his blind wife, Susy. Sam transported the doll across the Canadian border as a favor to a woman he did not know, unaware that several grams of heroin were sewn inside. When the woman is murdered, the situation becomes terrifying. The con man and ex-convicts convince Susy that the doll is evidence that will prove Sam had nothing to do with the woman’s murder. She refuses to reveal its location, and finally realizes that she is the victim of a bizarre charade. Roat kills his associates, and a deadly game of cat and mouse. Susy knows that the only way to play is by her rules, so when darkness, falls she turns off the lights, leaving them both to maneuver in the dark.Ticket prices are $34-$26
