WHEN WE WERE KINGS to Be Adapted Into Stage Musical

According to Variety, the 1996 documentary 'When We Were Kings' is being turned into a stage musical. Producers revealed that the show will feature musical from the film's soundtrack, which included songs by B.B. King, the Pointer Sisters, James Brown, and more. Writers for the project have not yet been anounced. 

Producer David Sonenberg told Variety: "The story fuses music, sports, dance, politics, race and culture in a way that should appeal to a broad, pan-generational audience."

The show is aiming for an off-Broadway opening in 2014.

When We Were Kings is a 1996 documentary film directed by Leon Gast about the famous "Rumble in the Jungle" heavyweight championship match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. The fight was held in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) on October 30, 1974. The film features a number of celebrities, including James Brown, Jim Brown, B.B. King, Norman Mailer, George Plimpton, Spike Lee and Thomas Hauser.
