Below, get a first look at the new film SUFFRAGETTE in the first official trailer. Starring Carey Mulligan, (Broadway's SKYLIGHT), Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, Anne-Marie Duff, Ben Whishaw and Meryl Streep (INTO THE WOODS) as Emmeline Pankhurst, the much-anticipated film will hit theaters this October.
According to Deadline, the drama will open the 59th BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday October 7th at the Odeon Leicester Square.
Meryl Streep (Into the Woods) will take on the role of iconic political activist Emmeline Pankhurst. Mulligan (Broadway's SKYLIGHT) plays a young foot soldier of the early feminist movement who is radicalized and turns to violence after seeing peaceful protests achieve nothing.
Pankhurst was the leader of the British suffragette movement who founded the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) in the early 1900s. Ruby's Faye Ward and Alison Owen are producing whileCameron McCracken, Tessa Ross and Katherine Butlerare exec producing.
