VIDEO: Citizens for Access to the Arts' Press Conference on Time Warner's Decision to Drop OVATION

Citizens for Access to the Arts was joined by NYC Arts Organizations and NYC elected officials yesterday at City Hall to express their opposition to Time Warner Cable, Inc's decision to drop Ovation. Numerous individuals from arts organizations joined in chants including "Save Ovation," "Time Warner Cable - do the right thing!" "Don't be a scrooge Time Warner Cable," "Save the arts!" Click below to watch footage from yesterday's press conference.

New York State Senator Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn), Council Member Robert Jackson (D-Manhattan), Council Member Gale Brewer (D-Manhattan), and Council Member Leticia James (D-Brooklyn) joined Ira Goldberg , Executive Director of the Arts Students League of NY and Morgan Jacobs of RxArt in speaking against Time Warner Cable, Inc's decision to drop the only arts cable network.

Council Member Leticia James started the chant, "Save Ovation" along with giving a tremendously powerful speech in opposition of Time Warner Cable, Inc. "Children need to express themselves. And as someone who loved the arts as a child, and someone who found her inner voice as a result of the arts, it's really critically important that we have Ovation." ?
"New York City, the center for the arts and the cultural institution of the world, and yet Time Warner Cable (TWC) wants to deprive its customers from the Ovation Channel, the only network in the country dedicated to the arts and culture. Ovation provides access to culturally enrich programming that inspires creativity, enhances our knowledge, and stimulates different forms of expression, especially in our children. I urge TWC to hear our pleads and keep Ovation on air," said Council Member Robert Jackson.

Citizens for Access to the Arts is a coalition of organizations and individuals committed to the idea that everyone deserves access to the arts. We support increased funding for arts education in schools, increased support for public arts institutions and expanded distribution of arts content through mass media channels including cable television.
