As first reported on TMZ.com, Michael McKean, star of stage and screen, has been released from St. Luke's Hospital today after spending the past week and a half recovering from an accident which left him with a broken leg and facial lacerations. The actor was struck by a car on the Upper West Side of Manhattan last Tuesday, May 22. He was one of three people who were injured as a result of an out of control driver.
According to the report, McKean is "not out of the woods yet." He will now move to Roosevelt Hosptial in New York City for extensive rehabilitation.
In a statement released today to TMZ, the actor revealed, "I am heading into week two with renewed admiration for New York City's Emergency Medical Service staff, the NYPD, the staff of St. Luke's Hospital ... and all those with problems much greater than my own."
The actor, who also played Squiggy’s best buddy Lenny on “Laverne & Shirley,” is currently appearing in Gore Vidal’s “The Best Man” on Broadway. The show is nominated for two Tonys, including best revival of a play. The actor has also appeared on Broadway in Superior Donuts, The Homecoming, The Pajama Game, Hair, Hairspray and Accomplice. His Off-Broadway credits include King Lear and Our Town. The actor starred in the films "This Is Spinal Tap" and "Best in Show."
