Underprivileged London Youth Arts Group Set To Perform In NYC 6/22
The Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater will host London-based youth community arts group NY:LON on June 22 at 6:30pm. Comprised of two-dozen teenaged students from one of London's most socially and economically deprived regions, NY:LON is a performance project of The Jo Richardson Community School. Each student has developed an individual piece of the collaborative performance, which will feature live and recorded music, dance and choreographed movement, devised and play text drama, multi-media projections and Broadway show tunes. The project aims to teach students to examine arts, cultural and environmental parallels between London and New York.
"The Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater is pleased to open its doors to NY:LON, a group of underprivileged youth from London," said Kimberly Loren Mulvaney, Artistic and Managing Director, The Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater. "The West Side YMCA and NY:LON complement each other in that both organizations seek to encourage and inspire youth, of all social and economic backgrounds, to understand and appreciate the arts. In the spirit of this complementary mission, NY:LON will donate all show proceeds to the West Side YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, a fund that provide NYC youth and families in need with access to YMCA programs and services, including theater and arts programs."
