UPDATE: Jeremy Jordan's 17-Year-Old Cousin Released from Anti-Gay Boarding Facility

Broadway veteran Jeremy Jordan turned to Facebook this week to ask his fans for their help in his efforts to free his gay cousin from an East Texas Christian boarding facility for troubled teens to "pray away the gay."

This evening, the GoFundMe page called "Save Sarah" which assisted THE FAMILY in paying mounting legal fees, has provided an update, assuring that Sarah has been released.

The post reads:

"We have an important update. We have just been informed that Sarah has been released from the facility. We don't know the details, but we believe that this page, and the willingness of you all to share Sarah's story had a great deal to do with this. We don't yet know what this means for the legal case -- we need to consult with our attorney and, when we are able, with Sarah about how or whether to continue. In the interim, we are not requesting additional donations at this time. As we've previously stated, if the lawsuit terminates, we will use all of the money that you so generously contributed to pay accrued legal bills for our lawyer and Sarah's. If there are any funds left over, they will be placed in a trust for Sarah to help her with life"s next steps so that she can attend college and lead a normal life being who she is and loving whom she chooses.

We are understandably excited by today's developments, and hopeful for what this means for Sarah's ability to live her life as her true self. And we are hopeful that one day soon all the other LBGT teens out there who face rejection by their families and attempts to "fix" their sexuality will be accepted for who they are.

We will update this page when we know more. Thank you again for your generous contributions and kind words for Sarah. We look forward to when we are able to speak to Sarah and share with her all the incredible and inspiring words that you and others have written to her during this traumatic time.

Sarah, a 17-year-old high school student, was allegedly "trapped against her will at a terrible facility in Texas" and was not permitted to have any contact, nor visitors. The fundraising site explains that the funds raised will go towards litigation, now taking place in a Texas State court in a county outside of Austin, Texas.

The GoFundMe page explains that the teen is not allowed to depart the facility because Texas state law permits parents to force their children to remain in a residential boarding facility until they turn 18. Sarah allegedly attempted to escape, but was quickly apprehended by staff.

Jordan previously posted on Facebook:

"I can't believe beautiful, smart, incredible kids like my cousin Sarah are still being told that being gay is wrong. But it's worse than that for Sarah... She's been placed at a remote boarding facility to help "pray away the gay" for a year with no communication to the outside world. She may not be able to see it now, but please show her how much she matters and take a stand to help us free this wonderful young woman and welcome her back to a world of love and acceptance."

Jordan was nominated for a Tony Award in 2012 for his role as Jack Kelly in NEWSIES, which he began with Paper Mill Playhouse in 2011. He has also appeared in Broadway's Bonnie & Clyde in 2011, as well as Rock of Ages and West Side Story in 2009. He guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU in 2008 and appeared in the film Joyful Noise. He also appeared in the second season of NBC's SMASH. He starred in the special Encores! event A Bed and a Chair- Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis's new musical event featuring Sondheim's music ARRANGED and performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. He currently stars in SUPERGIRL on The CW.
