UNLV Opera Theatre Presents 'Così fan tutte'

By:

The UNLV Opera Theatre will complete its 2007-2008 season with a production of Mozart's masterwork, "Così fan tutte" (or, The School for Lovers). Performances will take place at the Judy Bayley Theatre on the UNLV campus on March 14 & 15 at 7:30pm, and March 16 at 2 pm. Christine Seitz, director of the UNLV Opera Theatre, directs the production. The UNLV Symphony Orchestra will also be featured. Maestro Taras Krysa will conduct the Friday and Saturday performances, and Richard Brunson will conduct on Sunday. Set design is by Thom Bumblauskas and lighting design is by Michelle Warner.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors/military/faculty/staff, and $5 for students with ID. Tickets are available at the PAC Box Office, or by calling 895-ARTS (2787).

A favorite of opera enthusiasts, "Così fan tutte" has remained number 15 on Opera America's list of the 20 most-performed operas in North America. First heard in Vienna in 1790, it was the third collaboration between Mozart and his librettist Da Ponte (after "The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni"). Over the course of 24 hours, we follow the love interests of two sisters whose fianci's pretend to have gone off to war, but who actually disguise themselves to try to seduce the other sister. Many of the arias and ensembles rank among Mozart's greatest

Both graduate and undergraduate students are featured in the cast. The role of Don Alfonso will be performed by Kristopher Jordan. The Friday and Sunday performances will feature Michele-Bridget Ragsdale as Fiordiligi, Lynne Ricci as Dorabella, Brandon Teal as Guglielmo, Dominick Chenes as Ferrando, and Christina Williams as Despina. The Saturday performance will feature Edina Flaathen as Fiordiligi, Georgia McQuade as Dorabella, Luis Gonzales as Guglielmo, Eldric Bashful as Ferrando, and Amanda Mura as Despina.
