The June 24 vote for the Marriage Equality Act marked a major landmark in New York's journey to equality, which is now the sixth and largest state in the nation to approve gay marriage.

Throughout the path to legislation, many groups and performers with strong ties to Broadway have offered support - such as four time Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald, who has been a strong voice for gay rights.

On Twitter, McDonald had this to say @AudraEqualityMc

"Gonna sing at the celebration of the first gay marriage officiated by Mayor Bloomberg this weekend. So honored and excited!"
