Tufts University Honors Oliver Platt with P.T. Barnum Award, 6/7

Oliver_Platt_20010101

Tufts University will honor Oliver Platt at the 6th Annual P.T. Barnum Awards For Excellence in Entertainment June 7. The event has been entitled 'From Ballou to Broadway' and will take place at the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse at Lincoln Center.

Other honorees include choreographer Art Bridgman and producer Liza Lax as well as Nancy Stern, all of whom are Tufts alumnae. Two other alumnae will be the event's emcees, Hank Azaria and Joel Bishoff.

Oliver Platt was most recently seen on Broadway in GUYS & DOLLS opposite Lauren Graham and directed by Des McAnuff. He received a Tony nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in Conor McPherson's SHINING CITY. Additional theatre credits include the Lincoln Center production of Ubu; Jules Feiffer's Elliot Loves, directed by Mike Nichols; and his acclaimed performance as Sir Toby Belch in Brian Kulick's Twelfth Night. His film credits include Ron Howard's Frost/Nixon as Bob Zelnick; the Harold Ramis comedy The Year One opposite Jack Black and Michael Cera; Nicole Holofcener's untitled film opposite Catherine Keener; and the upcoming Roland Emmerich's epic 2012 opposite John Cusack, Thandie Newton and Amanda Peet. He received Golden Globe and back-to-back Emmy nominations for his portrayal of Russell Tupper in Showtime's Huff as well as an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal as White House Counsel Oliver Babish on The West Wing. This year he was nominated again for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his recurring role on Nip/Tuck playing the flamboyant TV producer Freddy Prune.

The P.T. Barnum Awards for Excellence in Entertainment is an annual awards ceremony honoring alumni of Tufts University for their exceptional work in the field of media and entertainment.

The award began as a 2005 collaboration of The Hill to Hollywood Network of the Los Angeles Tufts Alliance, the Tufts Communications and Media Studies Program, the Tufts Department of Drama and Dance, and the Tufts Office of Alumni Relations in celebration of the P.T. Barnum's love of entertainment and creativity, and the desire to honor members of the Tufts community for their advancement of and success within the media and entertainment industries.
