Town Players Opens 2011 Season With Cash on Delivery, Closes 5/22

By:

Town Players of Newtown is pleased to open its 2011 season with the hilarious, fast-paced British farce CASH ON DELIVERY! by Michael Cooney. The play closes May 22.

Unemployed for two years, Eric Swan (Nick Kaye, Bethel) has been making a living by duping local welfare authorities, claiming every type of benefit for the innumerable people he says live at his London address. This scam nets him tens of thousands - tax free! But just when he decides to "kill off" these imaginary benefit recipients because matters are getting a bit too risky, welfare investigators show up at his door. How on earth will he get out of this mess?

"This is one of the funniest plays I've ever had the opportunity to direct," director Gene Golaszewski of Brookfield said. "When it comes to comedy and chaos, I believe CASH ON DELIVERY! is comparable to the classic farce Noises Off."

"Farces demand an incredible sense of timing from the actors," said show producer and Town Players chairman Pam Meister. "We're fortunate to have a highly talented cast who can meet the demands of wild and wacky physical comedy and still have energy to spare at the end of the evening."

Rounding out the cast are some of the area's finest actors, including Angela Bowman (Carmel, NY), Shawn Brown (Danbury), Alena Cybart-Persenaire (Middlebury), Liesbet Higham (New Haven), Tim Hubenthal (Southbury), Terry Johanesen (Southbury), Ron Malyszka (Bridgewater), Sarah Cameron Nizzardo (Monroe) and John Pyron (Fairfield).

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review called CASH ON DELIVERY! a "madcap romp," while the BBC said of playwright Cooney, "son of the legendary farce master Ray," has "obviously picked up loads of tips from dad and then added to them to extract every ounce of confusion from the tale, in a comedy that slowly turns increasingly more ridiculous and bizarre!"

CASH ON DELIVERY! runs May 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22. Curtain time is 8:00 p.m. Fridays & Saturdays, 2:00 p.m. Sundays. FRIDAY, MAY 6 is a sold-out benefit performance for the Newtown Congregational Church.

Tickets for all shows are $20; $10 children 10 and under.

PLEASE NOTE: CASH ON DELIVERY! CONTAINS ADULT THEMES THAT MAY BE INAPPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN.

Reservations can be made by calling the box office at 203-270-9144. For further information about Town Players, visit www.newtownplayers.org.
